Following the best-selling footsteps of Jon Stewart's AMERICA (THE BOOK) comes Stephen Colbert's absurdly patriotic and intentionally wrongheaded ode to America. He tackles the big topics plaguing our nation today: the dangers of Mother Nature, the ways you might become gay, the utter fraudulence of evolution and atheism, and those ridiculous things called books. Boldly ignoring truth and the oppression of the "fact-a-nistas," Colbert goes with his gut and finds the "truthiness" of the issues. Filled with lots of splendidly useless charts, figures, and illustrations, his infamously acidic speech at the 2006 White House Correspondent's Dinner, plus a bonus DVD, I AM AMERICA (AND SO CAN YOU) teaches you, the reader how to become America. As Colbert explained in an Entertainment Weekly interview, "I think Walt Whitman said it best in SONG OF MYSELF: 'What I assume, you shall assume.' And that's what you need to do. Read the book, be me. Hold my truths to be self-evident." As always, his jokes are hilarious, bu Minimize

Stephen Colbert - I Am America (And So Can You!)

by   phungus ,  Oct 23, 2007
Pros: Plenty of great jokes
Cons: Some people won't get the satire
The Bottom Line: Despite being very short, it's still a great break from the usual political junk this time of year.
Review: Stephen Colbert’s hilarious I Am America – And So Can You is a wonderful anti-politics satire that makes fun of most every major political issue. He narrates the audiobook himself, complete with his deadpan delivery and confident emphasis that ...

Colbert's on-air persona, in black and white (and blue and red)

by   wordgirl ,  Oct 22, 2007
Pros: Captures Colbert's brand of smug parody perfectly.
Cons: Lags in places; better to read a chapter or two at a time.
The Bottom Line: The Colbert Nation knows what to expect, and this book doesn't disappoint.
Review: God bless Stephen Colbert - or should that be the other way around? Colbert admits to some ambiguity on this point; after all, he's never hesitated to give advice to anyone who seeks it, and why stop with the Creator? Colbert's schtick is simple. He ...
