If you've ever read Oh, the Places You'll Go!, The Cat in the Hat, Horton Hears a Who, or any of the dozens of books written and illustrated by Theodor Geisel, you may think you're familiar with the work of the man who delighted millions as "Dr. Seuss". But the wildly imaginative creations collected in these pages show a previously unseen dimension of Geisel's art. These fabulous and whimsical paintings, created for his own pleasure and never before shown to the public, will enchant and amaze you. These fantastical images have the inimitable style of Geisel's alter ego Dr. Seuss, frequently depicting outlandish creatures in otherworldly settings. The puckish Seuss humor is in evidence, as well as the insight that often gave his stories deeper meaning. But these paintings break new ground, using a dazzling rainbow of hues not seen in the primary-color palette of Geisel's books for children. The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss exhibits a sophisticated, technically accomplished, and often quite unrestrained side of Ge Minimize

The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss

by   Dosite1 ,  Feb 9, 2000
Pros: A full range of colors are displayed in these private works.
Cons: No text!?!? None needed though.
Review: This book, published an 1995, contains reproductions of Theodor (Dr. Seuss) Geisel's most personal art. These are the drawings, paintings, and three dimensional pieces that he did for himself, after midnight, when the day's work was done. I first...

Welcome to Seussville

by   yourcloud ,  Apr 27, 2003
Pros: You get to see what exactly Dr. Seuss did after midnight... :)
Cons: No notes under each piece of art to tell more about it, but tis ok.
The Bottom Line: A deeper insight to the nifty world of Dr. Seuss and his free time.
Review: I chose this book to read because I have always had a particular fondness for Dr. Seuss (even though I always misspell his name as Suess). I thought it would be interesting to see some of his other work, perhaps some personal stuff and gain an insight...
