Best internal modem for common PC use, but why ?

by   Gr8ful ,  May 16, 2000
Pros: 56k, X2 technology with V.90 standard, 16 Bit ISA ( hardware controlled)
Cons: A little pricey, but worth it
The Bottom Line: A solid hardware modem with flashable BIOS. Barring lightning, this modem will outlast your computer.
Review: This modem is the best choice for the most compatibility in your PC. I have used this modem with Windows 95/98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Linux and OS2. This is a standard ISA modem, which is the only type I will buy. Most ISA modems use actual...

One of the Best Modems You Can Buy

by   _fate_ ,  Dec 27, 2000
Pros: Offers reliability, no more headaches, and undaunted performance.
Cons: Considerably more pricey than your average generic modem, but is definitely worth the cost.
The Bottom Line: If you're searching for a good modem, or for a substitute to what you already have, please consider a 3Com. It will probably be the best decision you can make.
Review: Review: 3Com 56K Faxmodem Internal

Back when I still routinely used my old 333 mHZ computer, things were a lot more difficult for me. At that time, I believed that I could save myself some money by investing in cheap generic brands...

Works Perfect Right out of the Box!

by   andruzzo ,  Jun 18, 2000
Pros: Works out of the box, super support, works in Linux
Cons: Not FlashRom upgradeable.
Review: I've been a computer consultant for about 8 years now, selling
various systems under different configurations.

Practically every system that I sold required a modem. Years
ago, the ONLY modems worth buying and popping into your...

A Great Modem

by   czaz21 ,  Sep 10, 2000
Pros: fast, reliable, great connectivity
Cons: none
Review: I bought this modem, the ISA non-voice model to replace the PCI model that came with this Dell computer. I cannot believe the speed difference is about 6K with the same computer and location. I replaced the other modem because it would be 1. slow and 2....

There are modems, and there are US Robotics Modems

by   MDragon53 ,  Sep 25, 2000
Pros: Great quality product. Fast and efficiant.
Cons: Comes with a high price tag
Review: The Background

A lot of people call US Robotics the Nike of computer modems. They're the biggest brand name out there, and they carry the highest price tags. The big difference between USR and Nike is that you're paying for more than...

*The* standard in 56k modems

by   qangmartoq ,  Nov 16, 2002
Pros: Speed, reliability, compatability
Cons: Price
The Bottom Line: Buy it. You won't find a more superior 56k V.90 modem out there. You won't regret it either.
Review: A couple years ago, I received an older PC as a gift. It had a modem installed in it, which turned out to be dead. Fried by a power surge I suppose. So I set off to find a replacement for it.

The modems I found were mostly of the 'Winmodem'...

Hands Down the best I've installed.

by   DarkAngel420 ,  Jul 29, 2000
Pros: Fast,Reliable,Compatable with every major operating system
Cons: Cost more than most other brands. Worth it tho.
Review: Let me tell you No other modem stands close to the 3Com/USR 56K modems. Their Sportster line of modems has been my choice out of all the modems I've sold. I've sold and installed modems from all top name brands for years and 3Com/USR is by far the most...

OK. I'm not gonna shoot the computer after all

by   ethelred ,  May 13, 2001
Pros: It works reliably. At LAST!!!
Cons: Only connects at 45K. I used to get 52K, but could never stay online.
The Bottom Line: Get one. It works, it's reliable, and i'm avoiding the 'bargain' modems from here on in
Review: I wasn't sure I needed a new modem. I had problems -- unable to stay online over about 20 minutes, sometimes unable to log on at all, and freezing for about 30 seconds from time to time while i was online.

This had been a long term problem....

The Little Modem That Could

by   KaitiesMommy ,  May 16, 2000
Pros: Great performance, great speed, customer support
Cons: A bit expensive
Review: I recently purchased a computer, an AMD K6-2 500Mhz, 64Megs of RAM. Inside was a 3Com US Robotics 56K Faxmodem. I was reassured. Because I know that US Robotics set the standard in modems.

I have used 3Com US Robotics modems all of my life. I...

Great Modem - Reliable, Easy to Setup and FAST

by   qpabani ,  Aug 12, 2000
Pros: Easy to setup, V.90 ready, reliable, very fast. (fastest you can get for a modem)
Cons: None I can think of.
Review: I have used many modems before, and none even come close to the superiority of the 3Com Faxmodem.

It requires at least a 486DX processor, 4MB RAM, and 2MB hard drive space (Almost all computers surpass this minimum by far). It also requires...
