Pros: Nicholson, screenplay
Cons: None for me
The Bottom Line: You can save the Bottom Line for only 72 cents a day!

Schmidt replaces Smith as everyman moniker. 'About Schmidt'

by   Vormancian , lead in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Jun 14, 2003
Pros: Nicholson. Daring kick in the teeth.
Cons: Not really.
The Bottom Line: The best (recent) movie you'll never want to watch again.
Review: Somewhere around the mid-90s, Jack Nicholson started down a brilliant road. A road, unfortunate ...

Nicholson's Film About a Hollow Man Full of Meaning

by   bilbopooh ,  Apr 27, 2004
Pros: brilliant performance by Jack Nicholson
Cons: sad
The Bottom Line: With a departure from the frantic energy Jack Nicholson displays in so many roles, About Schmidt shows us how empty life can be, and how fulfilling.
Review: My friend and I recently attended a church service as the guests of a couple in a small group Bible study we’d been attending. The study was on Rick Warren’s The Purpose-Driven Life, and the church had integrated the study into its services. The ...

About Schmidt - the trailer promises a comedy.

by   quidrock ,  Jan 28, 2004
Pros: Nicholson. Great supporting cast, excellent screenplay.
Cons: Poor choices made with the trailer, set the wrong expectations.
The Bottom Line: Payne has some mishaps in his career, but this film, and prior gems ( "Election", "Citizen Ruth") should keep him in the public eye. Nicholson? He's a god.
Review: The movie defies definition. Is it a depressing comedy, or a dramatic coming of age film, with comedic touches? One thing is for certain. You will LOVE it. Or, you will HATE it. I guess that's two things. Pushed into retirement by the insurance ...

ABOUT TRUTH, ABOUT SOUL, ABOUT TIME

by   antonio55 ,  Jul 25, 2004
Pros: ACTING, SCREENWRITING, DIRECTING
Cons: NONE
The Bottom Line: Watch this movie if you live in a Western, European-based society and you understand the struggles for security and self-empowerment that absorb the lives of its denizens.
Review: On a superficial level, ’’About Schmidt’’ appears to be based on the exasperations and insecurities of retirement, what with losing one’s attachment to societal life, and coming to a halt on a rung in that ladder of societal status ...

Holly Schmidt Batman, the Joker Got Old!

by   shutuped ,  Dec 10, 2003
Pros: Great Acting, Great Directing, and a moving story
Cons: Slow, although not for this type of film
The Bottom Line: A very well done film, thought provoking, well acted, well directed, and over all enjoyable, but only for those with patience.
Review: I found this film a pleasant surprise. I hadn’t really read much about it, and had only seen one or two previews, so I didn’t really have many expectations going in. After watching it I estimate that I will watch it again, and possibly even buy a copy ...

YOURS VERY TRULY, WARREN SCHMIDT

by   jarvococker , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Jul 9, 2003
Pros: Jack Nicholson, Kathy Bates; superb script by Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: Jack Nicholson is as good as it gets in Alexander Payne's wonderful film ABOUT SCHMIDT, a film about destiny and making good with the time on earth you've got.
Review: ABOUT SCHMIDT opens in Warren Schmidt's (Jack Nicholson) deserted office at Woodmen Insurance on the ...

About Schmidt is a gem of a movie.

by   socnorb777 ,  Jun 11, 2003
Pros: Emotional depth I didn't think possible for Jack Nicholson.
Cons: Kathy Bates naked.
The Bottom Line: Excellent in every sense of the word. No Hollywood sugar coating, just the story of a man dealing with his life.
Review: To say that I loved About Schmidt would be an understatement. This is one of the best movies I have ...

Life's a B**ch.

by   eiley123 ,  Nov 1, 2008
Pros: Good cast and characters, funny yet sad, true to life
Cons: None for me
The Bottom Line: A very thoughtful, amusing film.
Review: The DVD box of About Schmidt has claims that this film is ‘hilarious’ and ‘a comic treasure‘. Perhaps it is because I am not that far from the age of the main characters that I felt that, despite being a funny film, it was more ...

Everybody Knows Somebody Like Schmidt

by   rjc ,  Jun 22, 2003
Pros: Very easy to identify with no matter your age, race or sex
Cons: Makes one think of their own mortality and the meaning of life.
The Bottom Line: Regardless of age or circumstance, everyone who watches will identify with and probably even like 'Schmidt'.
Review: Whenever I find myself thinking about a movie I watched a week earlier, I know it was a good movie. ...
