Author's Review

I had a pretty low opinion of flea sprays until I found Adams Flea & Tick Mist. When we adopted a 3-day-old abandoned puppy, he was sick, weak and really infested. I had no idea what flea control method might be safe to use on an animal that young.

My vet suggested Adams. Although the package suggests using it only on pets 6 weeks or older, the vet said it should be safe if we sprayed in on a towel and rubbed the puppy with it to avoid getting it around his mouth and eyes. It worked wonders!

Just one treatment that took about 5 minutes, and we didn't find any more fleas. Even during his next bath, a week later, there were no fleas in the water or on the brush. The bottle suggests using it every 9 days, and it really does last that long.

The spray didn't seem to have any adverse effects on our tiny puppy, but I'd ask before using it on any other pet that young. If your vet is familiar with any special health conditions, he'd be able to make a better recommendation than me. I'd expect you wouldn't have any problems with a healthy, adult pet. Adams is made from a plant extract (I think crysanthamum?), and it is possible for animals to have allergic reactions to certain plants just like we humans do.

Sprays aren't my favorite pest control method, but Adams was fairly easy to use. The bottle has one of those nozzles you can turn "off and on" kind of like some household cleaners. That makes me feel a little safer with adventurous babies around. The non-aerosol pump makes it easier to control the amount of spray, too.

The odor isn't too bad. It has a distinct smell that stays with your pet for a few days, but it's not obnoxious.

Adams Flea & Tick Mist was around $10 for a large bottle at our vet's office. It's mostly sold by vets or at pet supply stores, so it might be a little hard to find. I'm willing to live with the price and limited availability, though, since it works a lot better than the discount store brands I've tried.
