Your ALL WRONG!

by   magicant ,  Jul 12, 2004
Pros: Acting, Scenes, fight sequences
Cons: storyline, but still GREAT!
Review: I can't believe you all give this only 2and a half stars...This film is AMAZING! Sure its story line is a little haphazard, but it is hugely entertaining! Isn't that what we go to the cinema for! to be entertained! All sequences and acting is ...

Another bout of daft fun (not a Chinese dish)

by   captaind , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Apr 19, 2005
Pros: Fast and fun, great cast, especially Coogan, Broadbent, and Burke
Cons: Storyline a bit weak
The Bottom Line: Good, clean (mostly) family fun, silly but enjoyable.
Review: Oh well. Despite the fact that most people who’ve already reviewed this hated it, I have to admit that I rather enjoyed it! Not a modern classic but good fun all the same… //---// While little about this film resembles the book apart from ...

Jackie Chan Goes Around the World in 80 Days

by   dragonfire88 , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Jun 18, 2004
Pros: Fun and entertaining. Cast.
Cons: Slow in a few spots.
The Bottom Line: Around the World in 80 Days was a very entertaining movie that the whole family can enjoy.
Review: For the last year, I have been able to see many more movies in the theater than I had in the past. I love movies and enjoy going to the theater to see them. I’m always seeing previews for other movies that I want to see. I first saw previews for ...

The Moose Hole - Traveling 'the World' in a Hot Air Balloon

by   mickeymoose15 ,  Jun 16, 2004
Pros: Jackie Chan's action sequences, vibrant colors, beautiful locations
Cons: flat story, lack of originality, Cecille de France’s character
The Bottom Line: Around the World’s exuberant boast of presenting a brilliant and imaginative take on the classic Jules Verne novel seems have been filled with nothing but hot air.
Review: Two imaginative authors, H.G. Wells and Jules Verne, have become the toast of Hollywood with the latest adaptations of their works, War of the Worlds and Around the World, having just been announced in the last few years, but as the delightful, if albeit ...

Strictly for the younger viewers, and not the hardcore Chan fans.

by   garethvk ,  Jun 16, 2004
Pros: Great for the family and Arnold Schwarzenneger
Cons: Not enough action for hardcore chan fans.
The Bottom Line: Great for kids but lacks the action that hardcore Chan fans will crave.
Review: In the timeless Hollywood axiom of what was once old is now new, Walt Disney Studios has updates the classic Jules Verne tale “Around the World in 80 Days”, as Jackie Chan vehicle aimed at the family audience. Chan stars as Passepartout/Lau ...

Dancing around a classic novel in 80 ways

by   SKAD13 ,  Jun 16, 2004
Pros: More laughs than the darned thing really deserves
Cons: That wild and wooly Chan subplot; some B-grade cameos
The Bottom Line: Jules Verne purists will reel, but on its own terms, pretty funny
Review: Jackie Chan's version of Around the World in 80 Days is as rickety as one of Phileas Fogg's inventions, but darned if the crazy contraption doesn't fly. It seems a fair bet that when Jules Verne wrote this story, he didn't envision Fogg's valet ...

Predictable, but cute movie

by   flitzer ,  Jun 29, 2004
Pros: Good actors, interesting views of other cultures and countries
Cons: Some of the slapstick comedy was dumb, quite a bit of fighting/violent scenes
Review: This movie was neat and showed interesting parts of the world. It was a bit predictable since the good (but clumsy) guy got the girl and everything went well for him at the end. I liked the suspense, but the violent fighting scenes were a bit too much ...

Around the World in 120 Minutes

by   Bryan_Carey ,  Apr 17, 2005
Pros: Some good action; nice scenery
Cons: Unoriginal; Empty plot; Mediocre performances
The Bottom Line: This movie might pass as a family film, but there is too much missing to make it worthwhile.
Review: Based on the novel of the same name, Around the World in 80 Days is a Disney remake of the old 1956 movie classic starring David Niven. This version of the movie stars Jackie Chan and Steve Coogan in the main roles as two men trying to find a way ...

For kids .... and only for kids

by   sussmanbern ,  Apr 15, 2006
Pros: Light hearted. No heavy thinking or heavy lifting required.
Cons: Very very silly and not at all like the original story.
The Bottom Line: Not a remake but a childish pastiche of the famous story. Only for kids, I'm not kidding.
Review: Do not confuse this 2005 Jackie Chan movie of AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS with the 1956 David Niven classic. Nor even with the 1989 Pierce Brosnan TV movie. Jules Verne is credited with the story, but he'd deny it if he could. This flick exists only ...

Going Around in Circles

by   blade_runner83 ,  Jan 10, 2005
Pros: Coogan has his moments
Cons: Weak story. Flat characters. CGI galore. Poor direction. Asinine subplot. Boring. Overly modernist.
The Bottom Line: Around the World in 80 Days is a repugnant ambitious sprawl with small-time ingredients expected to whip up big time results. An expensive, yet fitting failure
Review: Here's a recipe fit for disaster. Add a dollop of CGI here; a spoonful of Jackie Chan there; a sludge of a few cameos and a spoonful of Steve Coogan. Stir till lumpen and put in oven: re-heat and then re-hash. The result is Walt Disney’s updated ...
