Acura MDX vs. BMW X5

by   LSMillers ,  Nov 20, 2000
Pros: both well built, car-like SUVs
Cons: X5: not as much utility; MDX: not as safe
The Bottom Line: If you want a great all-around SUV, get the MDX. If you want the ultimate all-road driving machine, go with the X5.
Review: We're currently vacillating between an Acura MDX and a BMW X5 3.0i as our next vehicle, and for us it's been a tough choice. We highly value safety, utility and versatility, and each model has much to offer in these categories. Although we've plunked...

Keep it or sell it, keep it or sell it... We'll Keep it!

by   RONinPC ,  Aug 30, 2004
Pros: A sportscar-like ride, tons of power, huge brakes, safest cabin intrusion rating of all vehicles.
Cons: Gas milage, odd shift ratios on the manual transmission.
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a mountain car with highway performance, this is it. Fast, comfortable, quiet, safe. What more could you want? Gas Milage is a downer.
Review: My wife had to give up her company car a few months ago, corporate downsizing took away the minivan. This left us in a predicament, as we wanted a newer car; but not the associated payment. If we were going to buy a car, it either had to represent an ...

The body of a SUV with the performance and feel of a sports car!

by   cubedme ,  Aug 9, 2001
Pros: SAV (Sport ACTIVITY Vehicle)
Cons: Requires premium fuel, price
The Bottom Line: The X5 is a great, sporty, and luxurious car filled with features. I highly recommend this car.
Review: BMW sure made a winner with the 2001 X5. It catches everyone's eye when you drive it down the street. If you're concerned the car will ride like a truck, it doesn't. It designed to move and feel like a car with the performance of a sports car....

X5 4.4 review

by   ndahbar ,  Jun 26, 2001
Pros: + Great looks + Excellent powertrains, brakes + Spacious seating area
Cons: - Pretty expensive for many people, especially outside of North America - Cargo area
The Bottom Line: If you need AWD and can afford it, the best car to have in the city, PERIOD.
Review: This is a review of a 2001 BMW X5 4.4i. Here are the options on the test vehicle:

Sport Package
Activity Package
Xenon lights
In-dash CD player
Autodimming inside and outside mirrors

Luxury and Sport Multiplied by 5

by   jiggaben ,  Oct 6, 2000
Pros: Exceptionally powerful and fast. Fun in the corners. Tight, quiet ride. Quality build and details. Digital sound system is fantastic.
Cons: Smallish storage space. Relatively more expensive. And gas mileage
Review: The price? Well, base MSRP (which is what itÂ’ll cost you for the foreseeable future) is $49,907 with the $570 destination charge included. This is WITHOUT options. However, the Sports Package would add $2470. Suffice it to say the X5 has a VERY long list...

If I only had $45,000

by   JKester ,  Mar 30, 2001
Pros: Handling, Refinement, Handling, all the right sounds and smells.
Cons: Price for what you get.
The Bottom Line: For the financially able, it is unparalleled from a driving standpoint. An excellent value it is not.
Review: In the current SUV market, any observer can see that there is a distinct trend toward vehicles that are half minivan and half SUV. This is because the general public now associates minivans with commonality and many drivers are also fond of the added...

No better SUV, but which options to get?

by   chingers ,  Feb 12, 2001
Pros: Safest vehicle in its class, luxurious, great handling, great looks.
Cons: Expensive, wait list, gas consumption.
The Bottom Line: To own one is to love one!
Review: I waited months for my X5, well worth the wait. If you are already interested in an X5, you might be agonzing over what options to get... I did. The sports package lowers the car and improves handling a great deal but makes for heavier steering and a...

The BMW X5 saved our lives!

by   fyianda ,  Sep 10, 2002
Pros: An accident proves that BMW X5 is one of the safest vehicles on the road.
Cons: I have nothing negative to say at this time.
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend the BMW X5 and plan to purchase another one in the future.
Review: I have enjoyed owning the 5 series sedan and now the 2001 X5 for more than ten years. Based on my personal driving experience and research, I have always believed that BMW was one of the safest vehicles on the road. However, a recent head on collision...

Awesome vehicle, and navigation is a must have

by   DOOLS ,  Jun 15, 2000
Pros: Performance, comfort, navigation sys., safety
Cons: None
Review: There were two events in my life that drove the purchase of the BMW X5. One was the fact that our little family was growing and my wife's convertible Mustang is obviously not a family car. Further, the Mustang has been a magnate for collisions having...

X5- SUV Hot Rod

by   rvjames ,  Feb 18, 2001
Pros: Great style, handling, power and comfort.
Cons: Cargo hold is too small.
The Bottom Line: Buy it. Don't buy the V8. Buy the 3.0 with the sport package.
Review: We just bought a dark green 2001 BMW X5 with the 3.0 liter 6 cylinder engine. What a great car! We've owned a Land Cruiser, a Range Rover, a Jeep Cherokee and a Jeep Grand Cherokee. This one tops them all. It has great power, it's quiet (with that BMW...
