A Curse!

by   christina1234 ,  Aug 12, 2006
Pros: Separate water Container, No need to move machine
Cons: Everything Else ***UPDATE*** No Backlight on Clock - Basket Design flawed
The Bottom Line: Do not buy this machine. You will regret it. ***UPDATE*** If you can be sure to get the re-engineered model, you might be real happy.
Review: After owning my former B&D Space Saver Coffee Maker for 12 years, it began to leak water on the counter from the spot where the water container meets the machine. No problem. I certainly had gotten my money's worth. So off I went to replace it with ...

I love it

by   mikee2407 ,  Jan 5, 2009
Pros: Great coffee, sturdy carafe.
Cons: None for me, but obviously there are some common flaws
Review: It makes great tasting coffee, and I think I had the leaking problem once. I just make sure to put the pot all the way in, and it is fine. Granted, I may have just gotten lucky, since it is made in China where the have no quality control. Another plus ...

I like it

by   marybeth7362 ,  Oct 22, 2007
Pros: Works great, no problems. Good coffee. Carafe doesn't drip.
Cons: Back light on display doesn't stay on long enough. Not as good as old model.
Review: I bought this new model after I broke the carafe on my 12 year old previous spacemaker. My old unit still worked, but given the age, and the price of the replacement carafe ($15!), I decided it was time for a new model. I bought it at my local hardware ...

I really want to love it, but it's difficult!

by   dumpsterdigger ,  Nov 4, 2007
Pros: Space saver; Pours without dripping; automatic timer and shut-off; makes great coffee
Cons: Stopped working with NO warning
The Bottom Line: Save your receipt and the box in comes in...you will probably have to return it!
Review: I received this coffee pot for Christmas 2006, and in September 2007 I woke up to find my coffee was not ready. It broke! The display was gone...there was no warning. Of course, I had thrown the box and receipt away, so what to do? Well, while trying to ...

Fixing The Brew Basket Flaw

by   tompr ,  Aug 14, 2006
Pros: Makes great coffee, removable water reservoir, nice carafe
Cons: Brew basket gets pushed out by Sneak A Cup lever. Needs redesign.
Review: Like many others, the brew basket was being pushed out by the pressure of the Sneak A Cup lever and causing a messy spill. This is caused by insufficient engagement of the two holes in the rear of the basket with two little projections at the top of the ...

Basket popping fixed

by   ebungay ,  Jan 1, 2007
Pros: Under-counter design
Cons: popping basket
Review: tompr is a genius!! I liked his idea of reinforcing the holes on the basket, so I did the same by gluing the thinnest little white plastic washers from the mounting kit - it worked like a charm, no more cleaning up a mess first thing in the morning! I am ...

UPDATE 18 months later---the ride is over

by   flutie7nfl ,  Dec 29, 2006
Pros: Programmable feature and under the counter mounting concept are still valuable selling points.
Cons: Mounting screws protruding into cabinet is unforgivable; if pot lip leaks you'll curse it daily.
The Bottom Line: An 18 month lifespan and clock problems throughout suggest that you can find better alternatives
Review: First, we have had many versions of Black & Decker's "Spacemaker" coffee makers since they first came out ages ago. They have been very good for us. Every new design seems to have a different mounting pattern, however, so that the underside of our ...

Many minuses, some pluses

by   avux2001 ,  Jun 20, 2006
Pros: Pretty to look at. Carafe doesn't spill when pouring while full.
Cons: Filter basket pops out. Mounting can be a pain
Review: This is one coffeemaker w/ a bad reputation. It does have some issues. One serious one is that the coffee basket pops out almost every time and if it comes out far enough, the "Sneak-A-Cup" feature will engage and you'll end up w/ the coffee not ...

A waste of time and money

by   garfdallas ,  Sep 11, 2007
Pros: saves counter space and doesn't leak like the older models.
Cons: It should work for more than a week or two.
The Bottom Line: If you really want this machine, be careful and keep the receipt and the box it came in.
Review: I have had a B&D spacemaker since the late 80's or early 90's. They have all lasted a reasonable length of time. But not the ODC450. I've had 2 in less that 1 month! Both made a few pots of coffee and then the power just goes off. Since everything ...

Ugh. I'm not asking for much.

by   coffeemakers ,  Jun 27, 2006
Pros: Makes decent Coffee and Timer Feature seems to work well.
Cons: Basket pops out, no battery back up for timer,no "on demand" hot plate.
The Bottom Line: Buy only if you don't mind ghetto rigging the basket and only want morning coffee for a few cups.
Review: I bought this unit as a present, my lady likes her morning coffee. The mounting bolts do protrude into the cabinet area, flat head bolts going down would work much better and make more sense. The Basket pops out about 1/2 an inch while brewing (usually ...
