Come Home With Your Shield, or On It

by   Bruguru ,  Feb 11, 2007
Pros: Amazing artwork, grand sweeping scale, based on a true story.
Cons: Can be hard to find.
The Bottom Line: May be Miller's greatest work.
Review: To the military historian, the battle of Thermopylae is the classic example of how to best use terrain to the advantage of a defender. ItÂ’s also a case study in courage, determination, sacrifice, and sheer force of will. For in 480 B.C., with just 300 ...

A thorough understanding of what it means to be Spartan, or a Samurai.

by   grimjack2 ,  May 17, 2001
Pros: First color art from Miller in a decade.
Cons: Some visual armor & weapon inaccuracies.
The Bottom Line: Wonderful use of the graphic novel medium. Frank Miller's most personal work.
Review: The actual story of the 300 is seldom heard in history classes. In 480 B.C., 300 Spartan warriors held off the entire Persian army (of at least 300,000 in size) for 3 days during an initial attempt to conquer ancient Greece. King Leonidas of the...

by   milhaven ,  Jan 31, 2007
Pros: Frank Miller story, Frank Miller visuals, Frank Miller violence.
Cons: A few liberties taken with history in favor of "cool" factor.
The Bottom Line: I still say definitely read the book. I'll never turn down Frank Miller. The "cool" factor does, in fact, work for this book.
Review: Maybe I should have titled it "Tribute to the Spartan Epic". Frank Miller and Lynn Varley have brought to comics fruition the massively unbalanced battle between King Leonidas of Sparta and Xerxes of Persia in 480 B.C. Xerxes sent messengers to ...

300, by Frank Miller

by   cdm72 ,  May 25, 2009
Pros: Frank Miller teams up with King Leonidas.
Cons: Over too soon.
The Bottom Line: Frank Miller definitely has his own agenda in terms of the books he produces.  That doesn't make everything he touches turn to gold, however.  300 is good, nothing more.
Review: Frank Miller. In comic-speak those two words pack a lot of punch. When you hear the name Frank Miller the mind immediately calls forth several images. Elektra being murdered by Bullseye in DAREDEVIL, or the silhouette of Batman leaping through the sky ...
