What a piece of work is Hamlet

by   Redlass , lead in Books at Epinions.com ,  Sep 11, 2006
Pros: The themes, the words, the characters, the drama
Cons: You won't catch me criticizing this play
The Bottom Line: Hamlet is William Shakespeare's masterpiece. It's a play that grows more meaningful every time you read it.
Review: This was my year for Hamlet. Through the course of the past 12 months, I’ve seen four different productions of Hamlet, some of them more than once. Each production had its own interpretations, underscoring what very rich text this best of ...

To be, or not to be . . . what was the question again?

by   countess_eva ,  Jun 18, 2009
Pros: Wonderful writing, deep meaningful musings, good characters, interesting storyline, deeply impacting and memorable
Cons: Hamlet's indecisive whiney ways, old language is difficult in spots
The Bottom Line: Segments of infinitely quotable text and soul touching soliloquies will make Hamlet an enjoyable play that, once read, will forever remain a part of the lucky reader’s soul.
Review: Hamlet, one the most renowned Shakespearean tragedies, bane of high school students everywhere, and delight of ardent bibliophiles, follows Shakespeare’s usual tragic formula. There are ample opportunities for betrayal, ...

Another interpretation of a classic

by   mikesr ,  Feb 20, 2002
Pros: A grabbing story filled with action and thought.
Cons: Reading too quickly might miss many subtle points.
The Bottom Line: This is a must read for anyone interested in English literature. It is one of the greats and may be a topic at cocktail parties.
Review: The line that exists between good and evil is easily blurred and Shakespeare's Hamlet exploits the ambiguity of the distinction for dramatic flavor. A close reading of the play will expose the villains as heroes and vice versa. As soon as the reader...

A Story of Revenge

by   MegaSoul ,  Apr 25, 2000
Pros: A classic
Cons: Old-style language may turn some readers off
Review: CAUTION! THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS!

HAMLET is without a doubt a classic play written by none other than William Shakespeare. In my review, I question Hamlet's indecisiveness. That is not to say HAMLET is a bad story, I am...

Hamlet: The Actions vs. Words

by   Emily6282 ,  May 9, 2000
Pros: This play is absolutely wonderful.
Cons: Everyone dies.
Review: For generation upon generation children have been taught to use force in their language and to restrain from force in their physical actions. However, it is this very hesitancy towards action that has lead to the downfall of countless characters. When...

'Something Rotten in the State of Denmark.'

by   GrUnGe_GaL ,  Nov 25, 2000
Pros: It broadens your mind
Cons: it is better to study and read it because you will appreciate it more then
Review: It is so hard to try and write an overall review of Hamlet as there are endless subjects and things to explain, but I will try and explain as much as I can. Also as we all know, there have been proffessers tryig to explain the play, all their loves and...

Hamlet-- Definitely "to be"

by   glbourquin ,  Oct 21, 2008
Pros: A classic emotional story with many layers, keeps you guessing throughout the play.
Cons: The language itself, while beautiful is unfamiliar. It can take some getting used to.
The Bottom Line: This is a must book to read and reread. It's a new story every time.
Review: Hamlet is a must read for everyone. This classic story of a young man struggling with the death of his father, and his mother's remarriage has been retold over and over in modern times, Getting this story at the source will be an invaluable resource for ...

A Classic Play About a Troubled Man

by   neeterskeeter ,  Jun 7, 2001
Pros: Characters, Plot, Writing Style
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: Everyone should read Hamlet eventually, so I definitely recommend it, along with all of Shakespeare's works.
Review: "...I am punished with sore distraction. What I have done... I here proclaim was madness" (V, ii, 140). This line, spoken by Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark, is a self-admitted declaration of his troubled life. Many problems face Hamlet on the outside;...

Masterpiece, READ IT!!!!

by   joshuaak ,  Jan 20, 2000
Pros: Some of the most intelligent characters in all literature
Cons: language can be difficult
Review: This is one of the greatest masterpieces ever written. In my opinion, it is the greatest work Shakespeare produced. It so completely captures the characters that it is impossible to not get drawn into the story.

The language can be hard to...
