Pros: beautifully written with a personable hero, excellent characterization, and subtle emotion
Cons: quite long, so it’s suitable for upper grades (but also for adults!)
The Bottom Line: One of the most enjoyable and true-hearted Civil War novels I’ve come across! It outruns many of the more well-known in its class.

Cons: Reading Level and Length may discourage some young readers

Pros: very well thought out easy to understand story
Cons: looks hard to read but isn't
Review: In the book of rifles for watie you can find a little of everything. I liked this bood most for that reason especially. When I first read it, it was only because it had a "realy cool front cover on it." I guess the saying never judge a book...
