This High Quality and Affordable Canon Lens is a "Must Have"

by   lambchops ,  Jan 8, 2007
Pros: Clear, great price, great contrast, well made, did I say clear?
Cons: Um. Uh. No.
The Bottom Line: Have a Canon SLR? Looking for a great lens for something less than a lot of money? Check out the Canon 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro/Portrait lens.
Review: I am a somewhat versed, but definitely not professional, hobbyist photographer. As such it is my lot in life to improve my equipment--my lenses, my camera, my flash, etc. This is a never-ending job. One that exists for all photographers with SLR ...

Puts the World in Perspective

by   MaxWebster ,  Nov 29, 2008
Pros: Sharp sharp sharp; manual adjustment for autofocus; great contrast, color.
Cons: Have to back up a long way for portraits and regular shots.
The Bottom Line: Make this your first prime lens. Open up the whole world of seeing and shooting close-in subjects.
Review: You've heard "sharpness" tossed around, and you may think you know what that means. But unless you've been shooting with L-series lenses, you'll see so much more detail than before, you'll have a whole new appreciation for a "sharp" picture.Ever ...

So sharp you'll cut yourself!

by   hopetest ,  May 16, 2005
Pros: Sharp, well-built, sharp, quick AF.... and did I mention SHARP?
Cons: No lens hood included. That's it!
The Bottom Line: Top quality, stunning images, probably the sharpest lens I have ever used! This is not just great, it's exceptional!
Review: Well, after lots of umming and aahing around (or as my wife called it 'faffing around'!) I could not put off the decision any longer. I have always loved macro but have felt my limits were being exposed by using just extension tubes or close up filters. ...

An honorary "L" series lens!

by   MECobb ,  Oct 24, 2006
Pros: Incredible image quality. Well built piece of glass
Cons: Why didnt I buy one sooner?
The Bottom Line: I cannot recommend this lens highly enough
Review: There is a short list of lenses that every amateur photographer should have in their bag-- basically, a long zoom and a short zoom. When I recently purchased my Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L, I had satisfied my desire for a high quality long zoom, and I ...

So Sharp It Will Cut Your Eyelashes

by   magic_puzzle ,  Mar 24, 2007
Pros: Solid, quiet, sharp, versatile, fast, dependable.
Cons: None to speak of.
The Bottom Line: Definitely "thumbs up"! I recommend this lens with great confidence to anyone wanting to upgrade their glass without mortgaging the kids' college fund.
Review: Photography - buy a camera and start shooting, right? Not if you are serious about it! I have owned cameras since I was in grammar school and the passage of time has taken me from a Kodak to a digital SLR. I have a family to consider so adding to my ...

Worth it to buy this EF Canon lens!

by   novapictureman ,  Feb 12, 2004
Pros: It is light, works as expected, and is worth the money.
Cons: None.
Review: I use a Canon 10D and wanted to get a solid performing macro lens. The Canon EF100mm Macro lens is fantastic! Pictures are crisp with true color rendition, and AF works superbly. The 1:1 image ratio makes this a very practical macro lens for any use. ...

pieinyereye

by   pieinyereye ,  Jul 4, 2007
Pros: IMAGE QUALITY, SHARPNESS, COLOR RENDITION, VERY SHORT DOF. GREAT FEEL ON DIGITAL REBEL. VERY SHARP!!!!
Cons: HOOD NOT INCLUDED, FOCUS RING MAY BE A LITTLE LOOSE, MINOR GRIPES, CONSIDERING IMAGE QUALITY.
Review: I PURCHASED THIS LENS TO SHOOT FLOWERS IN MY MOTHER'S YARD, AFTER READING SOME PRETTY HEFTY REVIEWS. THE REVIEWS WERE WELL DESERVED. THIS LENS IN JUST A VERY SHORT TIME AND A FEW HUNDRED SHOTS HAS BECOME MY FAVORITE. SHARPNESS, COLOR AND BOUQUET ARE ...

Great Lens, Great Price

by   fishnix ,  Aug 2, 2004
Pros: Amazingly crisp, sharp, great price/performance, f/2.8!, beautiful bokeh, fast focus, USM
Cons: heavy (a lot of glass!), cost (its worth it!), no lens hood!
Review: This is truly a great lens. Up until this point, all of my lenses were zoom lenses and I was worried that I may be at a disadvantage shooting with a prime. I was wrong. This lens, forced me to rethink some of my shots, and it forced me to move instead ...

For A Few Dollars More…

by   fashfoto ,  Oct 18, 2003
Pros: Excellent image quality…speedy focusing!
Cons: A bit more expensive but no truly negative considerations, yet.
The Bottom Line: Excellent image quality, fast focusing…
Review: It was Thursday that I bought a Sigma 105mm macro-focusing lens. Friday, the auto-focusing mechanism failed and I upgraded (paid a bunch more money) to Canon's 100mm, f:2.8, macro lens. I immediately headed out of the camera store with my second new ...

the little macro that could

by   mr_photo ,  Jun 17, 2002
Pros: small compact 1 to 1 macro lens
Cons: have to be really close to get good macro due to small focal length
The Bottom Line: a great small compact 1 to 1 ratio lens makes small things appear huge.
Review: This is one sharp tight little macro lens. This lens brings small tiny things up to life size 1 to 1 ratio.
its small compactness is nice to cary around with you in the field.

Several things I would recommend you get if you buy this lens...
