EOS 40D: Greatly improved 20D/30D

by   theuerkorn ,  Sep 2, 2007
Pros: Improved sensor and AF system, faster response, large viewfinder, flash control, quieter mirror, price, ...
Cons: Some consider the changes "too little", no integrated wireless flash controller
The Bottom Line: No matter what heated blogs suggest, the 40D is a solid choice for enthusiasts at a good price.
Review: One of the most anticipated dSLR cameras in 2007 is without a doubt the new EOS 40D. With the 30D being more of a refinement than upgrade of the venerable 20D, rumors went rampant on what the 40D is going to look like and when it's released. With most of ...

Professional Capabilities that an Amatuer can Appreciate

by   tombeaman ,  Oct 4, 2008
Pros:

Canon reputation for quality and professional features in a unit simple enough for amateurs.

Cons: Heavier, larger than an entry-level SLR. Buttons can be accidently pressed in normal use.
The Bottom Line: Simple enough for an amateur, powerful enough for a professional: this camera will satisfy anyone.
Review: This review is intended to help an amateur evaluate the 40D to decide whether or not to step up to this professional-level camera. The Canon EOS 40D is a professional-level Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera that produces very high quality ...

Canon EOS 40D vs Canon EOS 50D (actual user report) :-)

by   myord ,  Jan 16, 2009
Pros: Price/performance ratio.
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: The quality of the pictures made me keep the Canon EOS 40D.
Review: Canon 40D VS 50D, or Why did I return my 15 MP 50D and kept its 10MP bro…I’ll leave all camera body details and the list of features for the magazines and get right to the question: Which camera should I get? (Note: I have ...

Fantastic Entry Level and Above DSLR

by   milogd ,  Oct 22, 2008
Pros: Does a great job of walking the line between a professional and entry level DSLR.
Cons: Easy to hit dials and accidently change settings
The Bottom Line: Impressive and easy to use DSLR camera, with a lot of new useful features over previous models.
Review: I would consider myself a semi-pro when it comes to photography. I've spent the last three years using the 5D and have finally worked up enough business, to where it's time that I purchase a backup camera. The 40D is an obvious choice. I had ...

All the camera any amateur could need

by   brandonink2001 ,  Dec 13, 2008
Pros: Build.  Strong images for Auto shooter; pristine ones for experienced amateur/pros. 6-plus frames per second.
Cons: There's a newer big brother available now.  Could use expanded ISO range.
The Bottom Line: The camera's performance is five star.  If image quality is important to you, this is your camera.

If you want the freshest features, or need more than 10 MP, keep looking.
Review: This body is tough, but not weatherproof.  Its heavy, in a confidence-inspiring way.  And it makes GORGEOUS images.  Its not the newest in Canon's prosumer DSLR lineup, so its more suited to the serious amateur looking for value, not the ...

Amazing Camera

by   jbphoto ,  Sep 19, 2008
Pros: High speed sports photography
Exposure is right on
No shutter lag. press and shoot.
Cons: A bit heavy.
Occasionally misses focus.

Review: I've had this camera for about 6 months and I am very happy with it. It is my first digital slr. I've coupled it with two high end Canon E lenses and the results are impressive. I recommend that you buy the separate canon flash for bounce. the ...

Excellent Camera

by   nicoleinfl ,  Dec 15, 2008
Pros: Durable construction, controls are laid out nicely, takes excellent photos.
Cons: Camera is heavier than I am used to, large learning curve.
Review: The Canon 40D is my first digital SLR camera. I have had it for 2 months. I upgraded from the Lumix DMC-FZ7 as my interest in photography escalated and I wanted more out of a camera. I love this camera. The photos look ...

The lenses make it better

by   ncphototrekker ,  Mar 11, 2008
Pros: Great build quality, good feel in your hand, self-cleaning sensor, and live preview.
Cons: Important functions buried within menus, Ergonomics, slightly less mega-pixels than competition.
The Bottom Line: While the body doesn't surpass other offerings, when paired with Canon's legendary lenses, this body all of a sudden gives the competition a run for their money.
Review: I don’t always do things in the right order, and don’t always follow the typical pattern. My entry into the DSLR market is an example of just that. I purchased the Canon 40D after several years of using a point and shoot Sony F828. While the ...
