The Canon Powershot A630 – The A640's little brother is a winner

by   Howard_Creech , lead in Electronics at Epinions.com ,  Nov 30, 2006
Pros: 8 megapixels, 2.5" LCD screen, 4X optical zoom, full manual controls, and AA batteries
Cons: Minor chromatic aberration (purple fringing), red-eye, and high noise levels at ISO 800
The Bottom Line: The A630 is a worthy successor to the very popular A610
Review: Canon's A series digital cameras continue to hold the number one spot in U. S. sales because they consistently provide consumers with class leading performance, superb ergonomics, tough as nails durability, excellent image quality, and "best in ...

Canon PowerShot A630 8-Megapixel Digital Camera - Fast, Nice Photos, Good Price

by   dkozin , lead in Electronics at Epinions.com ,  Oct 6, 2006
Pros: Price, resolution, sharp photos with pleasing colors, features, battery life, LCD
Cons: ISO 400 and 800 a bit noisy, camera a little flimsy
The Bottom Line: I really like the A630, including its features, performance and low price. I highly recommended it if you need a capable compact camera that...
Review: Cheaper than the last year's 7 .1-Megapixel Canon PowerShot A620, the Canon PowerShot A630 features 8-Megapixel resolution, larger LCD screen and other improvements yet sells for substantially less. Once it became ...

by   kbolton72 ,  Dec 6, 2006
Pros: Fast auto focus, great movie mode, crisp pictures
Cons: A tad expensive
The Bottom Line: I will not have to buy another camera for quite a few years!
Review: I was heartbroken when my family and I went to a baseball game, and after setting my Canon Powershot S3 IS camera on the edge of my seat, it fell down from the stand and at least 4 feet onto the cement, smashing the lens and zoom on it, shattering ...

Compact Power! For Point-and-shoot simplicity or SLR fans.

by   skseattle ,  Oct 21, 2006
Pros: Quality construction, lightweight, compact, tons of features and settings, optional extras, great price.
Cons: For serious photographers... Fewer lenses than SLR, longest shutter speed is 15 seconds.
The Bottom Line: I have not found a better camera for this price range. Easy enough for beginners, strong enough for some professional use and expandable. Beautiful clarity and color either way!
Review: Just want to point and shoot? No problem. Set it to full auto, choose your zoom level and get stunning color and clarity. Some nice options like Telephoto and wide lenses, waterproof case and external flash. Since 1993 I've been a hobbyist and ...

As a long-time Olympus SLR user, I was blown away by Canon!

by   toogreen ,  Apr 10, 2007
Pros: Too many to mention here, but I have included them in the review! Awesome capability!
Cons: Strangely, no "Sports" mode, but you don't really need it, as there are other ways...
The Bottom Line: Easy enough for a beginner, deep enough for any serious photographer to use and appreciate.
Review: I've spent 30 years using and loving Olympus SLR gear, and consider myself a serious amateur photographer. I was unimpressed when my wife brought home a freebie Canon 2MP A60 from her office. "2MP" I chuckled... Then I took it out on a photo ...

Great for newbie & seasoned amateur

by   mymanchris ,  Sep 28, 2007
Pros: Auto settings allow quick point & shoot Great quality photos Fits in pocket
Cons: 4-AA batteries don't last long enough Time to auto focus is average
The Bottom Line: Great camera for beginner to enthusiast. Certainly not professional grade, but more than enough for average users (e-mail, print, web photos). Photos come out great, even under heavy zoom.
Review: When I bought a digital camera, I was really venturing into the unknown. Despite being a technical guy, digital photography was one area where I was a complete newcomer. The PowerShot A630 has been absolutely wonderful, though, and its balance between ...

Nice backup camera when SLR is too bulky to use

by   eberin ,  Feb 6, 2007
Pros: Extreme value for image quality and portability
Cons: Low light capability is marginal, but typical for point-and-shoot class.
The Bottom Line: Great camera for the money; articulated LCD is extremely flexible for tough photo shots. AA batteries cheap to buy and great for international travel
Review: I bought this Canon A630 to back up my Canon Rebel XT dSLR - both are 8 Mpixel. The A630 was intended for situations that didn't require the dSLR attributes - low light, lens interchangeability, bulkiness, and most importantly: the rapid shot-to-shot ...

The Bottom Line: This is a great camera due to it's ease of use, quality, and several options.
Review: I've had experiences thus far with a few digital cameras, and this one so far is my favorite. Last fall I was frustrated with my Kodak EasyShare digital camera. It's not that Kodak makes bad cameras, it's just that mine was low end, with poor battery ...

Review: I ordered this camera after reading the phenomenal reviews, and, what can I say, it certainly does live up to the expectations! It's ready to go, right out of the box. If you just need point-and-shoot, it's all set up! If you like to mess with custom ...

Superb pictures!

by   notofthisworld ,  Jan 22, 2008
Pros: The camera is multifunctional. It will take beautiful day, night and underwater pics.
Cons: This camera was a bit on the heavy side and will malfunction if dropped.
The Bottom Line: Easy to use with alot of features. Lots of fun to learn and a great tool for the amateur photographer!
Review: This camera has so many functions, I haven't even learned all of them and I've had it for 3 months already! The camera is a little heavy for my taste and I would have preferred it in black, but they only have it available in silver. I would recommend ...
