The Canon Powershot A640 Digital Camera may be the best new digicam of 2006

by   Howard_Creech , lead in Electronics at Epinions.com ,  Oct 14, 2006
Pros: 10 megapixels, 4X optical zoom, full manual controls, and AA batteries
Cons: Some minor chromatic aberration (purple fringing) and very high noise levels at ISO 800
The Bottom Line: The A640 is a worthy successor to the A620
Review: Canon's "A" series digicams are well known for their bang for the buck, class leading performance, impressive build-quality, creative flexibility, and amazing ease of use. Last year's A620 sold especially well because Canon listened to what digital ...

Canon PowerShot A640 10-Megapixel Digital Camera - An Excellent Choice For Anyone

by   dkozin , lead in Electronics at Epinions.com ,  Oct 16, 2006
Pros: High resolution, sharp photos with pleasing colors, features, battery life, LCD, AA batteries
Cons: Slightly flimsy construction, ISO 400-800 noisy, price a bit too high
The Bottom Line: I like the A640 a lot. I am pleased with its resolution, features and performance. I highly recommended it if you need a capable compact camera...
Review: A replacement for the last year’s 7 .1-Megapixel Canon PowerShot A620, the Canon PowerShot A640 has upgraded 10-Megapixel resolution, larger LCD screen and other improvements. As a top of the Canon A6-line, I wanted ...

A great camera for a great price!

by   sarahrose12 ,  Apr 3, 2007
Pros: LCD, price, Scene mode, durability, photo quality
Cons: Very few aperture choices, smudgy LCD
The Bottom Line: This is a great camera for the price - great features, quality and usability.
Review: I owned a Canon Powershot A520 for almost two years, and I was getting really sick of it. I mean, it's a great little point-and-shoot camera, but my needs had outgrown the camera. And my particular camera had been used so much over its lifespan that the ...

Excellent Digital Camera and Price

Pros: Easy to use, extremely high quality pictures, sturdy construction, fair price
Cons: Slightly too bulky for a pocket camera
The Bottom Line: Very sturdy camera. Easy to use right out of the box but advanced features will keep the photography buff enjoying it for years. Picture quality is superb.
Review: The Canon PowerShot A640 10 mega pixel digital camera may be the best choice in its class. For the price, durability, ease of use and most importantly quality of the pictures. This camera is truly hard to beat. There are other more technically ...

Wow!

by   snyderfour ,  Dec 30, 2006
Pros: megapixels, features, picture and lens quality, turn around screen
Cons: Size, price, no image stabilization
The Bottom Line: I definitely recommend it.
Review: I love this camera. After having the same digital camera for 6 years that sported one mega pixel, it was time for an upgrade. I shopped around and settled on this camera. It was actually smaller than my previous camera but has 10 megapixels. This is a ...

Review of Canon PowerShot A640 Digital Camera

by   rdsjes ,  Jun 3, 2007
Pros: High quality image, low noise, Lot's of Pixels, and an excellent macro capability.
Cons: No big disadvantages, the optical viewfinder is small, and there is no image stabilization.
The Bottom Line: The camera is an excellent point and shoot for either a beginning enthusiast or a Prosumer who wants a high quality point and shoot as a backup for casual use.
Review: I purchased this camera in October 2006, primarily for it's point and shoot capabilities. My Canon 5D is an excellent camera, but on daily early morning walks with the dog in the Arizona desert, it is too heavy. Occasionally, a good photo opportunity ...

Fantastic Camera but with a few alerts

by   kharin ,  Jun 11, 2007
Pros: like a small slr digital
Cons: You have to work this camera, this is more then just a point and shoot
The Bottom Line: Is this is a great learning tool for someone who is serious about photography like a miniature dslr and it can produce almost the same quality shots.
Review: The canon processing is very good. This camera is a very very good alternative to dslr camera. Its like a mini dslr without the powerful sensor. Before I say its the best camera in this category, there are some drawbacks that must be understood before ...

Best All-Around Choice

by   maramarrie ,  Jan 21, 2007
Pros: Battery life, power on speed (first shot readiness), rotating LCD screen
Cons: only comes with 32MB SD card
The Bottom Line: Great camera with lots of features, high MP, and low $$. Great for snapshots or those who are looking for a little more photography play.
Review: This camera replaced my old Canon PowerShot Digital Elph 2.1 mp camera. Of course, anything I could buy today would be better than my old camera. After doing some research and comparing sample images from a few cameras, I chose this to be the best choice ...
