The Best Camera Short of a dSLR

by   chui101 ,  Jun 13, 2006
Pros: 12x zoom, Image stabilizer, Full manual mode, good battery life
Cons: Can't autofocus in dark, noisy ISO 800, no 9-point autofocus
The Bottom Line: If you want an excellent camera but aren't quite ready for the dive into dSLR land with expensive lenses, this is the camera for you.
Review: It's kind of hard to impress me with most gadgets and gizmos - I end up always finding some little detail that gets to me. However, the Powershot S3 IS is, without a doubt, the finest point-and-shoot camera I have ever used. What's in the box ...

Pros: 6.0 Mega pixels, image stabilization, 12x optical zoom, very good image quality, super macro.
Cons: Small LCD screen, lens cap falls of too easily.

Best Surprise My Husband Ever Brought Home.

by   pixelfaler ,  Sep 29, 2007
Pros: Compact for capability, excellent zoom, internal stabilizer, very user-friendly.
Cons: The pop-off lens cap. But, one can even live with that.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend the Canon S3. It's an incredible buy for the price and has the backing of a quality manufacturer. It's very versatile, yet easily portable.
Review: Forget flowers, chocolates and sappy sentimental cards. When I was down in the dumps about being the only family member (outside of my three-year old) that didn't have a camera, but I was the one that tried to use the camera most often, my husband came ...

Canon S3 IS -- what to buy with it

by   senecalr ,  May 7, 2007
Pros: fun to use, no delay, great pictures, great zoom
Cons: A little heavy. I wish the lens cover locked in.
The Bottom Line: if your credit card sized camera is disappointing you (shutter lag, zoom, slow to write to memory) then this is the answer.
Review: Great camera! The write speed is so fast that I find myself clicking 3 to 5 pictures for every shot thinking I'll delete the bad ones later. So in a few hours I have over 200 pictures! Fun to use, the zoom makes all the difference. My little digital elph ...

by   arh33 ,  Sep 5, 2007
Pros: Feels solid, easy to use auto functions, great zoom, lcd screen, looks cool too
Cons: thin included neck strap, microscopic included memory card (why bother?), buttons all over the place.
The Bottom Line: work with it a little bit and you'll realize great results and crisp photos
Review: I bought this as an upgrade from my well-used and still loved Fuji 330 for the birth of kid #3. It promised a 12x zoom, more manual choices and higher resolution than the workhorse point and shoot we used before- and it has delivered. It has taken ...

Review: Years ago I bought a Sony Cybershot F-707. It was huge, but had lovely picture quality. I soon realized that I wasn't using it much because taking it with me when I left the house was a major decision. I was going to Las Vegas and I wanted to take ...
