Daniel Craig debuts as Bond in _Casino Royale_ |
|||||||||
|
Pros: Plenty of action, great stuntwork. Minimum of gadgetry.
Cons: Somewhat muddled at times. But still damn good.
The Bottom Line: Daniel Craig does very well in his debut as Bond in the 21st film in the franchise. Money, poker, stunts and plenty of action.
Review: I've noticed over the decades that the casting for James Bond tends to run in a cycle from serious to humour to serious and back again. With the advent of Daniel Craig as 007, we're back to serious again, and the franchise gets a new injection of life. ...

Pros: Great renewal of the Bond franchise, with a great new Bond and great action.
Cons: Eva Green doesn't have the sex appeal for a Bond girl.
The Bottom Line: This is a great for fans and non-fans alike.
Review: James Bond is one of the true iconic figures in cinema. Sean Connery, the first actor to play Ian Flemings British superspy, had a combination of good looks, style, refinement, audacity, and wry humor. Beginning with Dr. No in 1962, Connery ...

Pros: A thrilling action-packed spyflick, but much smarter than many Bonds.
Daniel Craig is wicked brilliant. Cons: None, really.
The Bottom Line:
This is the best Bond since the early Connery flicks. Rent it before Quantum of Solace comes out. Review: Casino Royale (2006) Directed by Martin Campbell. From the novel by Ian Fleming.M: You don't trust anyone, do you? James Bond: No. M: Then you've learned your lesson. Here, we learn how Bond became James ...

Pros: Daniel Craig; action scenes; Daniel Craig; exotic locales; oh, and did I mention Daniel Craig?
Cons: over-long screen time; never-ending poker game; Le Chiffre's hairstyle; asthmatics tarred by villainous brush
The Bottom Line: In this prequel to all the Bond movies, Daniel Craig gives an intense/ realistic/sexy/ brooding portrayal of Bond. Back-story for fans interested in what makes him Bond, James Bond.
Review: The Decision In the spirit of complete disclosure, I must confess that I have never been a Bond fan. Of all the books my dad left lying around the house during my childhood, the Ian Fleming paperbacks were the only ones I left untouched. Over ...

Pros: Great directing, no boredom, no filler, direct and honest
Cons: Corny one-liners here and there, puppy-love scenes make me puke
The Bottom Line: James Bond the villain
Review: This is how you get up in that a-ss and beat it until it cries out your name, until its farting out porcelain bricks, until its just a viscid fabric of human grease sliding down your flesh. James Bond, using his primitive, genetic- Britishly ...

Pros: Very probably the best of the Bonds. Certainly better than most. Very impressive.
Cons: A tad long. This may be easier to watch when you can stop the DVD.
The Bottom Line: A return to 007's origins, this presents us with Daniel Craig, a Bond who's dedicated, dynamic, and deep. Production values are extremely high. Eva Green excellent as the love interest.
Review: CASINO ROYALE (2006) is the latest - I think the 21st - entry in the "official" James Bond movie franchise (ignoring the 1952 TV dramatization of Casino Royale which starred Barry Nelson as an American Jim Bond and Peter Lorre as the unctuous villain Le ...

Pros: Director Martin Campbell breaks new ground with this darker Bond version...
Cons: May be too violent for some audiences...
The Bottom Line: Daniel Craig pulls off the best Bond job since Connery...
Review: This isn't your Daddy's Bond. For those of us daring to show their age, we remember back when a slim, trim Sean Connery assumed the role and began the legacy of the greatest action hero in film history. Sean's Bond was right out of the Ian Fleming ...

Pros: Excellent transfer, very good film
Cons: Extras rather lame, no Bond trailers, doesn't go with boxed set
The Bottom Line: A must-have DVD for action fans and Bond fans alike.
Review: (Reviewer's note: This review looks at the standard two-disc special widescreen edition DVD version of "Casino Royale") Bond is back. But this time, it's Daniel Craig assuming the role. It's a Bond that's been retooled for today's world. Gone are the ...

Pros: The new James Bond is the best thing since Sean Connery!
Cons: Most of the fun sci-fi gadgets are gone.
The Bottom Line: Bond is back - and better than ever. Really.

Pros: Great video quality, uncompressed audio, excellent acting, and a believable story.
Cons: No deleted scenes, 144 minute film with some lulls
The Bottom Line: Buy it on Blu-Ray and you won't ever regret the purchase. Revitalizes the 007 franchise. Best Bond movie in decades.
Review: Thankfully, I was able to acquire one what may have been one of the last two or three available copies of "Casino Royale" on Blu-Ray in my area. Highly anticipated Blu-Ray offerings are getting scarce on their release dates; which is a good sign for the ...
