Sum 41 Find Their True Calling with 'Chuck'

by   gotahemmi55 ,  Feb 12, 2006
Pros: Sum 41 takes a stab at heavy metal and WOW do they succeed!
Cons: Slipping Away does not belong on this tremendous album
The Bottom Line: Sum 41 finds their true calling in metal/punk as they successfully find a mature transition for their music.
Review: A lot can be said about bands who change their sound. Many fans call their bands "sellouts" or "mainstream" because bands usually change their sound to better orient themselves with a larger number of fans, which isolates their original crowd. Changing ...

Sum 41 Combines Punk, Metal, & More ... Successfully!

by   theblankearth ,  Oct 18, 2004
Pros: Dave's guitar skills, punk metal mixed with some great rock hits.
Cons: lack of a clear meaning in all of the lyrics
The Bottom Line: "Chuck" gets a whopping 4.5 stars out of 5 from me... and deserves the support from you too!
Review: It's been almost two whole years since Sum 41's last heavy hitting third studio album, "Does This Look Infected?", and they are back with all that you could ask for and more. After the amateur punk sounds of their first album "Half Hour of Power" and the ...

Sum Grows A Little

by   cheeriosfruit ,  Feb 8, 2005
Pros: meaningful lyrics, crazy advanced guitar riffs
Cons: CD seems short (the Japan version has three bonus songs that should've been released everywhere)
The Bottom Line: I would definitely recommend that everyone at least gives it a chance.
Review: Since Sum 41 burst onto the scene with their tongue-in-cheek, take it with a grain of salt hit, "Fat Lip," I've been a fan. While everyone was labeling them as a novelty and a passing fad, I was just hoping they would stick around to keep making more ...

French41 Review:

by   french41 ,  Dec 23, 2004
Pros: No reason, We're all to blame, The bitter end, Slipping Away, Pieces, 88, Somesay
Cons: Im not the one ?
Review: Chuck on your face ! Chuck is an awesome cd! It contains the best songs of the band... The songs are all very differents and the record seems like an 80's Best-Off . The bitter end is an amazing tribute to Metallica, Somesay is a tribute to Oasis and ...

Hands down, their best yet!

by   jbruiser99 ,  Aug 17, 2005
Pros: Great harmony, good exploration of vocal range, easy to listen to again and again
Cons: For some it might get repetitive towards the end
Review: The thing that I liked (and still do like) is the harmony of the songs. Because of this harmony it's so easy to lose all track of time and keep listening to this CD over and over and over again. If there was anything wrong to say about this CD is the ...

Worth the wait

by   usernamehere ,  Dec 27, 2004
Pros: Different melodies, diversity of instruments, good choruses
Cons: It is kind of short, yet worth it.
Review: After the release of Sum 41's record "Does this look infected?", released in 2002, people started to wonder how they're third record would be like. Being a fan myself, I feel the two long years wait were absolutely worth it. Sum 41's third album, ...

by   nfgcatalyst7 ,  Nov 2, 2004
Pros: Great songs on the album: no reason, some say, pieces and of course were all to blame!!
Cons: This album not being PA actually made me happy. awesome lyrics!
Review: I think this is sum41s best album yet! I didn't really care much for does this look infected but i was completely suprised with chuck. Its funny because i bought simple plan and sum41's newest albums at the same time thinking i was going to listen to ...

Not The Same Old Sum

by   PacManY2J , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Oct 18, 2004
Pros: heavier and more mature
Cons: Some tracks fail to stand out.
The Bottom Line: Thanks, Chuck.
Review: Sum 41 became simultaneously loved and hated thanks to their brand of catchy, snotty, immature pop punk. Ever since hitting it big, they've been in search of punk cred. 2002's Does This Look Infected? was a step in the right direction, ...

Don't Chuck it in the Fire Just Yet!

by   JiggyJay , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Nov 30, 2004
Pros: Revamped lyricism, instrumentation overhaul, toe tapping material
Cons: Seems very forced
The Bottom Line: A step in the right direction for the band; I guess hanging out with NOFX did them good.
Review: Truth be told I am not very fond of Sum 41. When they invaded the scene in 2001 with their atrocious-yet-impossible-to-st op-singing-it Fat Lip from their breakthrough album, All Killer, No Filler I had hated them for the longest time. What ...

Sum 41 Gives the Middle (Metal?) Finger to Pop-Punk

by   MattA75 , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Nov 18, 2004
Pros: plenty of strong tracks, the guitar playing of one Dave Baksh
Cons: Whibley's voice over a full album, a couple of weaker tracks
The Bottom Line: Chuck is a surprisingly solid mix of straight ahead punk and 80s metal.
Review: Sometimes, maturity is when you realize what you're not. Of course, there are those who say that maturity comes with finding who you are, and growing into who that is. But what gets less play is the realizations of what you're not. In some ...
