Excellent instrument; poor instruction pamphlet

by   rxshaw ,  Feb 4, 2005
Pros: Accuracy, speed, easy to read the screen, easy on battery use
Cons: Instruction manual is not well written from the user's standpoint.
Review: I received the GPS as a Christmas present so that I could pursue a hobby of geocaching. Because the instruction manual emphasized features of the product instead of the procedures one needs to follow to reach a designated point, it took me an extra hour ...

GREAT ITEM

by   mtroachbe ,  Sep 15, 2004
Pros: Great price customer service Great size
Cons: memory card small fit and finnish is not great
Review: This item is really nice. You can buy some items that will enable you to mount it in your car or truck. The custumer service is really great. I broke my screen and they sent me a new one for free. The bad part is its hard to get a signal and the ...

Does very well

by   kingjames ,  Feb 22, 2004
Pros: Excellent customer service, and it is an all around good unit.
Cons: I can't think of any.
Review: I have had my unit for 3 months and have had a very good experience with it.I don't know what people are talking about when they say it doesn't lock to satellites. Mine will stay linked up even inside my house. For the price I think you would be hard ...

Third Time's A Charm

by   boomba5 ,  Jan 21, 2004
Pros: Cobra Customer Support, Quality Feel, Altimeter, Compass, General Performance
Cons: 2nd Replacement Unit
The Bottom Line: The fact that it took two replacements to obtain a trustworthy unit isn't comforting, but I'm impressed with it now. Plus, that COBRA Support is great!
Review: NOTE: I've revised my review of Cobra 100 GPS because I've better learned its operation over the last three years. I previously did not recommend it, but now I can see that it's capable and reliable...generally above average. HISTORY: I hike the ...

Never Get Lost!

by   wardnkathy ,  Nov 12, 2004
Pros: Has base maps, accepts detailed maps, and inexpensive.
Cons: Will not show distance to waypoints in feet or meters - only miles.
The Bottom Line: A great deal for the price.
Review: I recently bought a Galileo 100. My wife and I are now hooked on geocaching. The unit fits nice in the hand, the display is easy to see, and it seems very accurate. I have not had any problems getting satellite signals including on nature trails ...

No-frills GPS100, cheap and effective

by   williampierce ,  Jan 17, 2005
Pros: Small, lightweight, functions well
Cons: CONSUMES batteries, sometimes has a hard time finding satellites (maybe all GPS units do this)
The Bottom Line: For a first-time user into the world of GPS, I'm quite happy with it. Just need to get the adapter and external antenna...
Review: Lots of pros and cons to this unit-- I got mine for $50 on ubid, so I didn't pay much for it at all. CONS:I've discovered that this thing EATS batteries! It is constantly accessing or trying to find satellites, which consumes the batteries... you ...

Good Product at Great Price

by   jonahop ,  Dec 19, 2003
Pros: Great feature called bread crumbs that shows you where you've been so you can backtrack.
Cons: With the backlight on at night the batteries don't last as long as I'd like.
Review: The detailed mapping with locations built in was pretty cool. Mapped a trip recently and it took me directly to the hotel. It even has some restaurants and many gas stations listed that saved us some time on the ...

Great Addition to GPS 100

by   wardnkathy ,  Nov 12, 2004
Pros: Update and detailed maps
Cons: Slow data transfer rate.
The Bottom Line: The detailed maps and POIs are a great addition to the GPS.
Review: The upgrade pack is a great addition to the Whistler GPS. The maps are very detailed and current. The GPS shows the road name you are on and the cross street names when you pass corners. It even has small roads such as in parks. It also has points ...

Ok Unit

by   fuzzylogic ,  Aug 8, 2005
Pros: Has maps, is expandable
Cons: Low battery life, Cumbersome interface, poor satellite reception (only at night?)
Review: Yeah battery life sucks on this thing but if you use it for your vehicle then a power adapter overcomes this. Have a hard time getting satellites at night... Don't understand that one. Getting an external antenna for it since I use it in the vehicle ...

You get what you pay for

by   bigoil ,  Feb 19, 2005
Pros: cheap, maps are accurate, external CF memory card
Cons: battery life, satellite lock, back light
The Bottom Line: the overall performance of this unit is well below that of the main players - primarily due to its poor satellite lock in vehicles and in tree cover.
Review: This is a fully featured GPS unit, let down by its skittish satellite performance, inexcusably poor backlight, and its battery consumption. However if you can get it for under $80 at uBid, it’s a fun toy when it works. I wouldn’t buy this as a primary ...
