Metallica Return From the Dead

by   PacManY2J , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Sep 15, 2008
Pros:

A fast, heavy, determined return to form with a creepy concept

Cons:

Lyrics are good but not their best

The Bottom Line:

Rock's comeback of the year?  Decade is more like it.

Review: You don't need me to give you another summary of Metallica's quarter-century history. You don't need me to describe the hype surrounding Death Magnetic or how badly Metallica needed it to be a great metal album. All you need me to tell you is ...

Death Magnetic puts the Metal back into Metallica!

by   shopaholic_man ,  Sep 19, 2008
Pros: Old School Metallica! Yeah! Rick Rubens production is great
Cons: We had to wait so long!
The Bottom Line: Rick Ruben puts the METAL back into Metallica!
Review: I just purchased the new album by Metallica, Death Magnetic. Before reading this review, you should know my bias. Metallica is my favorite heavy metal band, I've liked them since my college days listening to Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning ...

Redemption for Metallica

by   mikewa30 ,  Oct 4, 2008
Pros:

Masterfully done tracks for all intruments.

Cons:

Length of a few of the songs mean a marathon of listening.

The Bottom Line: Bottom line, this CD is a powerful juggernaut of sound that will shake you to your core.
Review: Metallica, a name that comes up when you mention the most influential rock and roll/heavy metal bands of all time.Being a fan of Metallica since the first album, "Kill em All," I've had some pretty high expectations for any new studio release ...

Back from Hell, Metallica Reclaims Their Metal Throne

by   thevoid99 , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Oct 6, 2008
Pros: Production, Performance, Lyrics, Songs, Structures, Instrumentals, & Arrangements.
Cons: Mixing is a Bit Off on the Bass in the CD version.
The Bottom Line: Death Magnetic is a Return-to-Form Album from Metallica as They Return to their Thrash Roots with Help from Rick Rubin. (4.5 out of 5)
Review: Since the release of their full-length debut album Kill ‘Em All, Metallica changed the face of metal by taking the speed energy of punk and the driving riffs of metal's previous forefathers like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Iron ...

This Has That Metallic Ring To It

by   wolfman309 ,  Sep 13, 2008
Pros: Good songs all the way through.
Cons: Turn down Lars! No real standouts other than the instrumental piece.
The Bottom Line: It was a little disappointing but still a good album.  I have enjoyed it.  Just don't expect the earth to shake with it.
Review: Is it really good or just better than the last outing? Well, one thing is for sure, it has already been played much more than the thankfully almost forgotten St. Anger. But how does it stand on its own merit? That is the question about Death Magnetic ...

The death of seventeen years of inconsistency for Metallica

by   jeremybentham ,  Sep 13, 2008
Pros: Production, the ballads, the thrash throwbacks, the solos.
Cons: A few weak songs, a few questionable lyrics and that damn snare drum.
The Bottom Line: If you can look past the fact that it's not the sequel to Master of Puppets, you'll be treated to a great album that saved Metallica's career.
Review: Lets face it: No one would have exactly lost any sleep had Metallica disbanded after the release of 2003's horrendous St. Anger. Much has been written about the level of atrocity Metallica achieved on that outing, and deservedly so. In the years ...

The "comeback" album that was five years too late

by   lordfrost ,  Jun 30, 2009
Pros: Not quite a return to form, but still a solid album
Cons: Production is a little lacking, some songs drag a bit
The Bottom Line: Death Magnetic is the album Metallica should have released in 2003. Or in 1997. Or in 1996. But hey, better late than never?
Review: More than enough has been said and written about Metallica's 2003  abomination of a comeback album St. Anger that I could probably go the rest of my life without even mentioning it again. But just for the sake of perspective, St. Anger ...

Death Magnetic - Magnetically Attractive To Old Fans Or The Final Death Of Metallica?

by   marty1982 ,  Sep 12, 2008
Pros: The thrash is back, some excellent solos, good drumming, some great songs.
Cons: Sometimes convoluted songwriting, becomes repetitive after a while, occasionally spotty vocals.
The Bottom Line: While not without its flaws, Death Magnetic is a worthy comeback for the godfathers of thrash metal. And an album no Metallica fan should be without.
Review: Be prepared for a typically long review. No album this year has been hyped more than Metallica's latest opus Death Magnetic. It's been 20 years since the band has released a true thrash metal album. And since then, we've had three ...

Old School Metallica is Back!

by   phungus ,  Sep 24, 2008
Pros: Great thundering heavy metal music, long guitar solos
Cons:

Nothing major

Review: If you are a fan of the 'old Metallica' who doesn't really like the 'new Metallica', then you're going to love this album. It's a throwback to the pre-Black album days. It sounds more like something they might have released in between Master of Puppets ...

Metallica revived from the dead!

by   dmagnetic ,  Oct 2, 2008
Pros:

Nothing like St. Anger, solos are back, has an old school feel about it.

Cons:

Rob's input is nearly unnoticed, coffin cut-out in CD booklet make lyrics impossible to read.

The Bottom Line: Metallica are back from the dead. The fire, passion & music is there & the head wants to start banging again.
Review: Finally it is here; arguably the most anticipated heavy metal album of recent times from arguably the most successful heavy metal band in history. On the forefront of everybody's mind will be is Death Magnetic a return to form for the metal ...
