The Chemical Brothers Rock My Block With Funky Beats |
|||
|
Pros: Energetic, vibrant, diverse, timeless, creative...
Cons: A few clunkers and a few songs that stretch on for too long...
The Bottom Line: Dig Your Own Hole is flawed, but the core of the album is outstanding not to mention some amazing songs. Definitely one of the more innovative albums of the 1990s.
Review: The Chemical Brothers may hail from the shores of Manchester, but their sound has little to do with the baggy movement of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Creative, wild, original, and entirely unexpected the duo made their debut in 1995 with ...

Pros: The album that made electronica mainstream.
Cons: All the boring repetitive groups it inspired.
The Bottom Line: An essential electronica album.
Review: Previously I had heard The Chemical Brothers's "Exit Planet Dust" which I rather enjoyed, but this album is superior in many ways. Some of the sounds on the aforementioned album previewed what was in store (the weird spacey synth noise on 'Chicos Groove'...

Pros: Superb production and beats.
Cons: Repetitive in some areas, those unfamiliar with techno may not get it.
The Bottom Line: Dig Your Own Hole is a good album that will appeal to pop fans that aren't major techno fans, yet won't alienate hardcore fans of the genre.
Review: As far as Techno goes I'm not a huge fan. There are some techno artists that I enjoy; yet I overall prefer straightforward rock made with actual instruments. The techno artists that I do enjoy and listen to include Moby, Fatboy Slim, Meat Beat Manifesto,...

Pros: Great beat oriented techno
Cons: A few duds among the bunch
Review: The Chemical Brothers had already, with their first album, established themselves as beat-masters. Dig Your Own Hole is just another piece of evidence which supports this claim. If you are looking for melodic techno, with symphonic strains, such...

Pros: Mad Beats on every song
Cons: Not lyrical genious'
Review: This CD should always have a spot in any cd changer. Every song provides new beats to move to. This one will go down as a classic so pick it up today. One of my favorite electronic cds, this cd provides hours of trippy listening. For best effect, put...

Pros: Immense sonic precision
Cons: Just too good to follow up
Review: Dig Your Own Hole saw the Chemical Brothers move on from being the guiding lights of bigbeat to it's ultimate assassins. It saw them move from quirky underground experimentalists to become the Black Sabbath of dance music.
From the dark moody cover... |

Pros: awesome beats, an incredible jewel of a song with Beth Orton, and great depth of listening
Cons: songs run into each other, it can give you a headache, and for some reason it doesn't retain all its merit when listened-to in the presence of others
Review: Dig Your Own Hole is an excellent album in nearly every regard- not just for people into electronica, but for any music listener. I bought the album for "Block Rockin' Beats." Initially, I was turned off by the other tracks. They seemed noisy,...

Pros: big beats
Cons: stuck in your head
Review: This is one of those greatest of all time albums, that every electronica lover must have. It has been a ground breaking Cd which has brought this genre from the underground to light of the youthful, raver masses. its has tracks that get into your head...

Pros: One of the most innovative and exciting dance albums ever made.
Cons: Don't try to listen to it when you have a hangover.
Review: I know this may sound odd, but I was ready to declare Dig Your Own Hole the best rock album of 1997. I know what you're thinking... "Dylan! It's a dance album, stupid."
It's a lot more than that, friends. It's the rebirth of rock... |

Pros: A nice mix of psychedelic music in their tracks...
Cons: Some of the middle tracks have such a weak presence...
Review: If you are looking for some older techno music, the Chemical Brother's Dig Your Own Hole might just be what you're looking for. This is the album that established Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons as a solid presence in the techno music scene.
