Pros: Fast, full of action and comedy
Cons: Over the top on some descriptions, a bit gross in places
The Bottom Line: It made me laugh, go urgh and realise that all fishermen are really very strange.
Review: I got this book as part of an omnibus edition (reviews of Skin Tight and Tourist Season to follow)
I've just found out that Double Whammy preceded Sick Puppy by quite a time, this now makes sense of the difference in the two books. I read Sick... |

Pros: Fast-moving, plot twists, bizarre characters and situations, trenchant humor.
Cons: Nasty tone; situations meant to be grotesquely amusing cause little more than revulsion.
The Bottom Line: Early Hiaasen -hasn't it his stride yet. However enough here to satisfy fans of his bizarre comic vision -but there's too much that's more repellent than funny.

The Bottom Line: For the man's fans, or those who enjoy heavy satire, this is perfect. Others may want to try later Hiaasen novels despite the introduction of repeating characters.
Review: If we all have favorite authors who are guilty pleasures, there are also well-regarded authors we may not appreciate. I can certainly respect anyone who finishes their manuscripts and causes savvy marketers to believe the end product is salable. My ...

Pros: The author dedicated it to the memory of Clyde Ingalls.
Cons: Clyde Ingalls turns in his grave every time someone sees his name in this book.
The Bottom Line: Dr. Seuss could have made this bearable by making it rhyme. Mother-in-law said there was a funny part so I kept reading until it was the last page. Where?
Review: Why and How I wasted Several Hours of My Life By: Mongomad1 At the request of my mother-in-law, I read this book. She raved how funny it was and that I would like it because I enjoy fishing and am from the south, namely Florida, for many ...
