Pros: Passion, Adventure
Cons: None
Review: "Dragonfly in Amber" by Diana Gabaldon leads the reader into another world.
Ms. Gabaldon's writing is vivid, words form pictures in your mind. She is wonderful at making the reader feel as if they know the characters. Finding... |

Pros: This is *not* merely a 'romance novel'.
Cons: you may feel embarrassed searching the 'romance novel' aisle to find it.
The Bottom Line: Read it. But pick a time when you haven't got much else on your hands - you won't be putting it down for a few days.
Review: I don't generally go in for reading books in series, for two reasons: one, they're usually crap, and two, waiting for the next one to come out leaves you in a state of utter agony.
Well, the second problem certainly rings true here, but they are... |

Pros: A real "can't put it down" series.
Cons: Your husband may get tired of seeing you with these books in your hands!
Review: While I agree that Diana Gabaldon's "Dragonfly in Amber" is not as good as the first book in her Outlander series, I only came to that conclusion after reading the series for the second time. Everyone I know who read these books are waiting...

Pros: contains a little of everything
Cons: none
Review: This opinion is from my girlfriend's point of view, she is a huge fan of Diana Gabaldon, read every one of her books twice. This book makes you feel like you are at the war in Culloden, feeling the soldier's pain. The main character, Claire, being a...

Pros: Satisfies the nagging feeling left at the end of Outlander
Cons: Time and emotion-consuming
Review: I always finish Diana Gabaldon's book wishing there were more to follow. Dragonfly in Amber is the second book in Gabaldon's series about Claire and Jamie Fraser, and at close to 1000 pages, it certainly satisfies the need for an...

Pros: rich, descriptive, continuing
Cons: has it's slow moments
Review: This is the continuing story of Claire and Jamie Fraser, a tale of true love discovered in a most unusual way. A continuation of the story begun with Outlander, this part is told in the present, to Claires daughter Brianna. It is the story of...

Pros: Main characters Jamie and Claire are still wonderful
Cons: The story doesn't focus enough on Jamie and Claire
The Bottom Line: If you loved Outlander, there is a lot in this book worth reading. It just doesn't quite measure up to its predecessor.
Review: I am not much of a romance novel reader, but I was captivated by Outlander, the first book in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. I stayed up night after night to finish that book! Consequently, I had high expectations of the...

Pros: Hard to put down. You want to see what surprise is on the next page!
Cons: Very long. Sometimes a bit tedious.
Review: At the end of Outlander, Claire reveals to Jamie a wonderful secret.
Dragonfly in Amber then begins in 1968, after Claire has gone back to her own time and has become a successful physician and mother. She reveals to her daughter, Brianna, who her... |

Not As Good As The First Book

Pros: continuation of a great first book, good writing
Cons: not as good as Outlander
Review: Let me qualify this before I get started... I haven't finished the book yet. I really loved the first in the Outlander series and couldn't wait to start on book number 2. So far, I've been somewhat disappointed. Gabaldon's writing is as good as ever....
