Close to a Gibson, and much more affordable.

by   link21886 ,  Jul 29, 2004
Pros: Good playability and sound, great value. Close to a gibson, but a lot cheaper.
Cons: Unbalanced weight(neck is heavy), not great pickups.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this guitar to anyone looking to get a quality entry level guitar or someone wanting to upgrade from their first guitar and stay on a budget.
Review: Overview I purchased my Epiphone G-400 with the cherry finish from a local music store at the beginning of 㤌. The price was approximately $360, but I received a discount since I traded in some older equipment. Because of its price, the ...

Epiphone G-400: Beautiful SG At Not Such A Gibson Price

by   soupcraze ,  Mar 1, 2003
Pros: Looks Like A Gibson, Feels Great, Pretty Good Pick-Ups, Price, Etc...
Cons: None!
The Bottom Line: The Epiphone G-400 will give you excellent performance at an excellent price. Just like a real SG!
Review: I love Epiphone, especially for their prices. I'm a pretty big fan of the Gibson SG. The Epiphone G-400 is a much cheaper version. Let's start off by saying that I've played this at stores, yet my guitarist friend Paul has an Epiphone that he customized....

An SG at 1/3'rd the price.

by   summer79 ,  Sep 4, 2002
Pros: Beautiful finish, great style, plays well.
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: A instrument has to fit the musician. This guitar fit's me well.
Review: The G-400 body pushes the neck of the guitar a couple of inches further to the left when compared to many other guitars, this gives me more playing room, much easier to reach the 22 fret. The neck is a little wider than your standard Strat or Les Paul,...

A hardcore Fender guy looks at the G-400

by   jefhatfield ,  Oct 15, 2001
Pros: everything but especially the finish
Cons: none
The Bottom Line: If you want a gig ready SG for a little over four hundred dollars, this is it.
Review: Even though I only own one guitar now and am retired from music (I sold roughly 59 of them over the years), I prefer Fender or Squier/Fender when I buy an instrument. My second choice is Ibanez. My third choice is ESP. Only then do I look at Gibsons or...

Good guitar for the price.

by   fdomonte ,  Jan 12, 2003
Pros: Lightweight (good for me), stays tuned, low action.
Cons: Fret buzzing occurs easily.
The Bottom Line: I'd say buy it if you need something to replace your high-end guitars at practice or in small shows, you might even like it more than that high-end guitar.
Review: Features:
A standard Epiphone Korean-made SG Gibson copy with double cutaway body, glued neck, and two Alnico humbuckers. Mine is cherry red. Tone/volume controls. it's very lightweight, maybe some people wouldn't like it because of that, but it's...

Spend the few extra bux - it is worth it

by   ResinRed ,  Aug 28, 2000
Pros: Beautiful guitar, sound is great, stays in tune, suits different musical styles, set neck
Cons: Gig bag not included
Review: I needed a new guitar, and I always wanted to have an SG, Gibson or Epiphone, it did not matter.
I decided on the Epiphone G-400, and even got a good deal on the instrument. After playing it in the store I just had to have it. The amazing...

Great Guitar for your Bucks

by   rccollector13 ,  May 26, 2005
Pros: Feels great, looks awesome, sounds excellent, and costs lots less.
Cons: A bit top heavy, sometimes I get a rattle on the low E
Review: I purchased the G-400 at a used dealership for a first guitar... and I've never regretted it. I love the SG's shape, and this was definitely a great find. It has good sustain, tone, and feel... the only problem is the top heavy neck, but that can be ...

Angus Young on a budget

by   joeklein ,  Jan 10, 2005
Pros: Light, playable, inexpensive.
Cons: Finish and tone could be better
The Bottom Line: A well built instrument which will help you share in the Gibson imagery without the high costs.
Review: As I mentioned in my previous reviews, I am an Australian guitar teacher and my students often come to me for advice regarding gear purchase. A student who has been learning acoustic guitar with me for about three years decided last year to extend the ...
