Does the Solo S2 really stack up to the Escort 8500?

by   saberry ,  Jul 2, 2003
Pros: Great range, covers all bands, gives option of corded or cordless operation
Cons: At $329.00 it's a little pricey.
The Bottom Line: The Solo S2 gives you all the superior protection of the Passport 8500 and the option of going cordless or using the acclaimed 8500 power cord.
Review: There seems to be a lot of debate as to whether or not the cordless Escort Solo S2 delivers the same ...

The Perfect Investment

by   GM_Fan ,  Dec 5, 2000
Pros: Size, No cord needed, Easy to use
Cons: Need to purchase batteries
Review: This radar detector is one of the best investments I have ever made. I decided to buy one since I usually like to live in the fast lane. With the push of a button, you are in business.

It has plenty of great features. It detects K-, Ka-,...

effective help for a speeder

by   luv2roq ,  Nov 27, 2005
Pros: it works well for me
Cons: none i can think of.
Review: This is a good unit. It took me a little while to get used to the different tones or pitches the alerts use for the various bands, but its very helpful. I drive in a familiar area, where the false alarms are common to me and I know when to ignore alerts ...

Solo RD-5510 Still Detects, But Beginning to Show its Age. **see update

by   sistah-c ,  Mar 2, 2001
Pros: Um...no umbilical cord; reliability; stealthiness
Cons: Visor-clip is extra; time to set up preferences; lacks anti-theft features; LIDAR liability
The Bottom Line: Overall, was a great investment for the heavy right foot with the understanding that no radar detector is 100% fail-safe. And, of course, you don't speed...which I never do.
Review: I've been one of several loyal Escort customers in my family, dating back to Cincinnati Microwave's glory days...they've earned my respect for the quality & performance of their radar detectors. The previous one I owned was the first Solo cordless unit ...

Cordless, 'Nuf Said

by   Sarv ,  Aug 3, 2000
Pros: Cordless, Sensitive,
Cons: Expensive, Sensitive, No Stealth
Review: This, basically, is a Radar Dectector like any other quality detector. Comes with all the bells and whistles (pun intended). Scans all bands (X, K, Ka) and Laser. Its programmable as all are, and you can set it up to your liking (brightness and...

Solo 5110 Review

by   wkdf ,  Sep 17, 2002
Pros: Cordless, very user programmable & easy to use, virtually no false signals. Good X/K/Laser reception.
Cons: Marginal Ka reception without the optional cord, which makes it acceptable.
The Bottom Line: If your driving is primarily urban/suburban I would strongly recommend this detector, it's EASY to use. For heavy highway drivers, use with the optional cord or get model 8500.
Review: The Solo 5110 cordless radar detector has been in both my cars for about 6 months now. You can program this thing to suit your tastes in the areas of volume, automute, 4 brightness settings, 5 radar sensitivity settings, start-up mode, different sounds,...

Not too bad, Not too good either...

by   joefirefighter ,  Feb 19, 2003
Pros: Light weight, Convienient, good display, easy to understand features/buttons
Cons: Range, Range, Range! Alerted w/in close eyesight of police radar units- too late!!
The Bottom Line: Good display, easy to use features. Terrible on range and early warning though. Would be perfect if it operated like the V1 or 8500.
Review: I purchased this detector because I'm in and out of different cars and wanted something I could use on my motorcycle with out having to hard wire it in. It's battery operation is very convienient and it has the ability to be powered by hardwire or...

Escort Solo Cordless Radar Detector (another goodie review by the motorcycle cop)

by   tejones ,  Mar 19, 2001
Pros: Compactness and cordless operation.
Cons: Weak Ka Band performance, owner must keep spare batteries on hand.
The Bottom Line: Somewhat pricey when compared to other detectors, and leaves much to be desired in sensitivity to traffic radar, especially Ka Band. Better radar detectors are available.
Review: (NOTE: This is a continuation of radar detector opinions I have already written. Rather than have everyone grow tired of watching me repeat myself in each opinion, please read my opinions on the Bel 980 and the Cobra ESD-6500. I’m not trying to drive...

Worthless Cordless.......

by   A-RDR-GUY , top reviewer in Electronics at Epinions.com ,  Sep 2, 2001
Pros: Readable display; Dim Settings
Cons: Power Cord; Memory?; Sensitivity!??; Price
The Bottom Line: Better off purchasing a Bel Cordless or a Uniden 937 and Cobra 9000 for similar performance.
Review: Escort, aka Cincinnati Microwave, has been producing a wireless Detector for sometime. The first wireless too was a called the Solo. The unit used a 9 Volt battery and a Security Key to operate. The Original Solo Detected only X and K band, and was good...

by   womey ,  Sep 24, 2003
Pros: The Escort Solo is cordless and allows some programmability (volume level, brightness, etc.)
Cons: High battery consumption; Very poor durability; Highly overpriced.
The Bottom Line: I'm thumbs down on ESCORT SOLO.
Review: ESCORT markets this unit for having the following key features that set it apart from other detector ...
