One for sorrow or two for joy?

by   Guildenstern , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Dec 18, 2003
Pros: .
Cons: .
The Bottom Line: Good, not great, but still nearly perfect. Aaah, the joys of paradoxes.
Review: For me the Counting Crows are one of those once in a lifetime bands that seem able to do no wrong. The first album I heard was their second, Recovering the Satellites, which is widely regarded as their weakest album. I would subscribe to ...

Crafted as if it were made by true artists.

by   ltrain ,  Mar 24, 2007
Pros: Ballads that have the potential to become true classics
Cons: A melancholy feel even sneaks into the uptempo tracks.
The Bottom Line: You can listen to this album in nearly any setting (except maybe working out). It's a truly versatile must have disc.
Review: Counting Crows has always been one of those bands that got a great deal of airplay for one or two songs on an album but never really got a whole album to take off in my section of the mainstream. When I glanced at the track list on the back of this CD I ...

I Said That I Would Pay For Them, If I Could Come Back To You

by   MattA75 , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Jul 11, 2004
Pros: all the hits, some good album tracks, and Einstein rules
Cons: too many ballads, could have had better sequencing, no Daylight Fading
The Bottom Line: Films About Ghosts is a good collection for the casual fan, though like many hits collections, far from essential to the Counting Crows diehard.
Review: It's hard to believe it's already been a decade or more since the Northwest Rock Movement was the biggest thing on earth, and music by bands that actually had something to say other than wanting nothing but a good time or girls to talk dirty to them. ...

"if dreams are like movies, then memories are films about ghosts."

by   Stairway2Drew , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Dec 18, 2003
Pros: goodness
Cons: badness
The Bottom Line: more goodness than badness is good.
Review: I've never met Counting Crows frontman Adam Duritz, but I can tell you that he's an intensely fascinating person. That's because Adam Duritz is one of the most genuine singer-songwriters of the past decade or so; Films About Ghosts is the Crows's ...

We ALL wanna be Bob Dylan.

by   jeff_wilder78 , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Jan 2, 2004
Pros: Mostly great selection of Counting Crows songs.
Cons: Why is "Big Yellow Taxi" on here instead of "Daylight Fading"?
The Bottom Line: .
Review: What can one say about the Counting Crows at this point? That they're a bogus Van Morrison rip-off as Jim Derogatis put it. Or that they should be credited for bringing the sounds of 1972 era Van, Dylan and The Band together with the early REM sound and ...

-=Mr. Jones and Mrs. Potter on the back porch counting crows=-

by   flamepillar , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Jun 12, 2004
Pros: An emotional gauntlet.
Cons: Missing a few songs like "Daylight Fading"
The Bottom Line: Counting Crows = Another consistent and reliable band who actually make me feel sad.
Review: This is so weird, 'cause it wasn't until right around ten years ago today that I started to show any interest at all in modern music of any genre. Now I see all these artists who first emerged around that time putting out Greatest Hits/Best Of ...
