Firefly - The Complete Series Gets Another Chance on DVD

by   dragonfire88 , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Oct 1, 2005
Pros: Wonderful Unique Show by Joss Whedon. Great characters and stories.
Cons: Show was cancelled before it really had a chance.
The Bottom Line: Firefly - The Complete Series on DVD is a wonderful, must own set for fans of the much too short tv show.
Review: I first heard about writer/director Joss Whedon in connection with the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It was the summer of 2002 before I really started to watch the reruns of the show and I was quickly hooked. That fall, Whedon’s new ...

A Fascinating Blend of Sci-Fi and Western: Joss Whedon's Fantastic Failure, "Firefly."

by   JediKermit , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Sep 10, 2005
Pros: Two genres are freshened up in one series, great characters, new situations...
Cons: 15 episodes wasn't enough for the network to save it...
The Bottom Line: Burn the land, boil the sea, you can't take the sky from me...
Review: Cowboys, outlaws, preachers and hookers: all of the elements of the Old West that made it "Wild." All of these plus horses, pioneers, and savages are all present in spades in Joss Whedon's big failure, "Firefly." A true Western set in outer space, it ...

Firefly - The best scifi series you've never seen

by   phungus ,  Oct 18, 2004
Pros: Cast, sets, effects, dialogue, stories, everything
Cons: It ends too soon and leaves too many questions unanswered
The Bottom Line: Firefly was just too good for television.
Review: Firefly was a short-lived dream project from writer/director Joss Whedon. He’s the man behind the two hit television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. With the success of those shows, Fox studios wanted another hit series out of ...

Firefly --- Emmy Award Winner and Cult Television Favorite (All The Episodes)

by   three_ster ,  Aug 5, 2008
Pros: very inventive story, great cast, impressive special effects, lots of fun
Cons: it got cancelled
The Bottom Line: Well worth the price of admission, this is a great DVD series to own, that really shows what science fiction originality should look like.
Review: Back in 2002, FOX tried to bring an original show to the air in the form of Firefly. Based some five-hundred years in the future, it focused on a ship of outcasts who flew about the galaxy trying to avoid both sides of the law. They fly aboard a ...

Ah, Firefly, you burned bright at both ends

by   Redlass ,  Jul 13, 2006
Pros: Superior storytelling, well-developed characters, rich themes, and great dialogue
Cons: Cancelled way, way too early
The Bottom Line: I cannot think of a single show (not even my rose-colored memories of Remington Steele or Knight Rider) that surpasses this one in quality and sheer delight.
Review: I have to admit that when it comes to television, I’m a pretty hard sell. It’s not that I’m anti-television, it’s just that I’m pro- so many other things, that it is difficult to convince me that I should give up one of my other ...

Joss Whedon’s FIREFLY (The complete series) (2002)

by   artbyjude , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Dec 31, 2003
Pros: The remarkably interesting concept, story, characters, dialog
Cons: Unfinished business, unanswered questions from premature cancellation. Fie on Fox Network!
The Bottom Line: This is a great way to spend of few hours watching the tube! Never soporific, and pretty interesting. A couple of "new" episodes that never aired!
Review: I have just watched this 4 disc DVD release twice, straight through. And I was never bored. The reasons are many, and I’ll give you a few of them. Those of you already enthralled by the series, (you know who you are!), won't need to read this ...

Joss Whedon's Firefly series on DVD ~ Never got the recognition it deserved

by   dramastef ,  Sep 29, 2005
Pros: Cast, storylines, action, premise...
Cons: None... seriously, none.
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend viewing this series, preferably before seeing Serenity
Review: This past year, the boy bought me the Firefly series for my birthday, seeing as we already own every other Joss Whedon-created show. Knowing that the series was cancelled, we let it sit around for a while before starting it. Silly, silly ...

A Great Short-Lived TV Series

by   briankrakow ,  Mar 31, 2005
Pros: Joss Whedon's trademark wit and characterization. Great cast. Episodes shown in original order.
Cons: It's only 15 episodes, but blame FOX for that.
The Bottom Line: Firefly is a funny and suspenseful TV series with very memorable characters. I would recommend it to anyone, even those who usually don't enjoy science fiction.
Review: I've never been more happy that I never saw a show during it's original broadcast. Firefly was a quality show from the creative mind of Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel). Unfortunately, FOX decided to screw around with the show by airing ...

Firefly, a breif bright flicker in the black of television.

by   talyseon ,  Jun 14, 2008
Pros: Six star television all the way.
Cons: It died of abuse by the network
The Bottom Line: This is the best science fiction program in a decade. Worth the watching.
Review: Firefly: The Complete Series (2002) By Joss Whedon. Take my love, take my land Take me where I cannot stand I don't care, I'm still free You can't take the sky from me Take me out to the black Tell 'em I ain't comin' back ...

"You're my kind of stupid"

by   Guildencrantz ,  Oct 2, 2005
Pros: Fantastic scripts and an extremely tight story that moves well from episode to episode.
Cons: Fox hasn't decided to resume the series.
The Bottom Line: The Bottom Line thinks Kaylee is shiny.
Review: I never got into Angel or Buffy but when Joss Whedon mixed Sci-Fi with Old West and English with Mandarin I was hooked. Firefly's eclectic environment, engaging characters, and amazing writing all come together to, surprisingly for ...
