by   madtheory ,  Jan 2, 2004
Pros: Excellent story, graphics, and sound; lots of ships; good AI.
Cons: Repetitive dialogue, lag online really screws up the jump gates.
The Bottom Line: “We don’t own this base, but we have an ‘understanding’ with the people that do.”
Review: Gamers searching for that all-engrossing Wing Commander-type space shooter experience need look no further than Digital Anvil’s Freelancer. In this space odyssey set in the future in a distant part of space, the player assumes the ...

by   LaughingTarget , top reviewer in Games at Epinions.com ,  Mar 21, 2003
Pros: Visuals, story, sound, gameplay, multiplayer mode.
Cons: Creepy character models, random missions can get monotonous.
The Bottom Line: Space as it should be.
Review: I have always been an explorer at heart. Unfortunately, the world itself is very small and I am aware of pretty much of everything that is out there without actually having to leave. So, the strong desire to travel has never come to me, not travel...

The Spirit of "Elite" Lives On!

by   mickp ,  Mar 8, 2003
Pros: Open ended gameplay. Multiplayer option. Convincing and immersive graphics and sound.
Cons: Despite being big, universe could be bigger. Doesn't quite take "that next step".
The Bottom Line: A fantastic new space combat, trading and exploration game, very much in the mould of the classic "Elite". Fun for new and old gamers alike.
Review: No over 25 gamer worth their salt should not be familiar with Elite, David Braben's epic game of space trading, combat and exploration.

Cons: Might not be challenging enough to some
The Bottom Line: Freelancer is a worthy sequel to Privateer with high production value, balanced freeform gameplay, vast universe, and lots to do.
Review: Freelancer is a worthy sequel to Privateer. If that statement doesn’t mean anything to you, then I welcome you to the world of the Space RPG (role playing games); a genre of freeform video game where you do usually take on some Han Solo like...

Pros: Open Ended, Great Replay-ability, Good story, large universe.

That's how the game begins....

Review: To be honest, I truly hate Science Fiction. The whole realm of endless aliens and galaxies bore me to no end. So when I popped my demo for Freelancer into my CD-RW drive, I wasn't expecting a whole lot. Never could I have judged a game more wrongly....
