The Garmin 60CSx Is an Excellent State-of-the-Art Handheld GPS Receiver

by   vivona ,  Mar 3, 2007
Pros: Excellent sensitivity, feature rich, automotive and hiking navigation, solid construction
Cons: Limited basemap, smallish screen, low alert tone volume
The Bottom Line: The Garmin 60CSx is an excellent state of the art handheld GPS receiver that satisfies the needs of the driver, hiker, geocacher and jumpmaster.
Review: My needs were for a handheld GPS receiver that could be used for both hiking and automobile navigation. I had been using a Garmin eMap in this way for five years but found having to enter in each navigation route waypoint-by-waypoint to be quite a chore. ...

Greatest Handheld Unit On Market

by   mantidx1 ,  Sep 27, 2006
Pros: New antenna/receiver is highly accurate, fast, and has great coverage.
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: This unit is the first of the next generation of handheld outdoor GPS units. The accuracy, satellite reception, and features make this unit a must-have.
Review: My workplace purchased this unit at my request about three months ago. It is a step above every other similar unit that I've ever used (I am a scientist and work with GPS, GIS, and remote sensing technologies on a daily basis). We bought this unit for ...

Great GPS Unit

by   szerfas ,  Oct 5, 2004
Pros: Speed, power and functionality.
Cons: Cost, manual.
The Bottom Line: A great little GPS unit that serves well in the car or on foot. A good value over the competition.
Review: This is a great little GPS (Global Positioning System) unit and we still continue to be impressed with how much it does. We have owned the unit for about 4 months and still cannot be happier with the purchase. Our main motivation for getting a GPS unit ...

Great GPS unit

by   dynamicfigure ,  Jun 18, 2005
Pros: Durable and weather resistant, great/bright display, accurate topo maps, easy to use and understand.
Cons: Not compatable with Mac's (bummer), some the topo maps roads are also quite dated
The Bottom Line: Great product that has proven much more valuable than I originally thought
Review: After having this unit for about a year and using it for everything including hiking, hunting, skiing, and driving I cannot say enough good things about it. Though I have never submerged it for prolonged periods of time, I have slipped and fell into a ...

Very good unit!

by   ht39 ,  Jul 8, 2004
Pros: Works! Easy to use! What else can I say?
Cons: Maps need to be bought separately
The Bottom Line: Works great! No problems!
Review: Wonderful screen; intuitive interface; what are you waiting for? When you buy the add-on mapsource software, you get great auto navigation. The color screen is very good; high resolution & colorful. Very readable in broad daylight. You do need to ...

Good Stuff!

by   fbp2 ,  Oct 19, 2006
Pros: Excellent technology, well designed, lots of features and very robust.
Cons: Some software clumsiness and map data that needs work.
The Bottom Line: If you want a great piece of technology, then this unit is worth looking into.
Review: The Garmin 60 CSx is a great GPS. There are plenty of reviews that attest to this and I love it too! The unit is very well designed and the weak points would not be noticed by typical users. That said, below are some of the less appealing details of ...

Now this is what GPS should look like!

by   bredlo ,  Jul 23, 2004
Pros: Amazing screen, nice customization features, very versatile, nice geocaching features
Cons: No Macintosh support, pricey add-on map software (as with all Garmin)
The Bottom Line: Without Mac support, it's a pain to enter all coordinates in manually. Still, it's an exceptional product and as a first-time GPS user, I couldn't be happier.
Review: After owning a Garmin eTrex Legend for all of 24 hours, I realized that I wasn't going to be happy with a small black and white screen, no turn-by-turn driving navigation, and the inferior nature of built-in antennas. While considerably more expensive, ...

Good for both car navigation and hiking / geocaching

by   schultzkp ,  Jun 26, 2006
Pros: Battery life, color, screen brightness, functionality
Cons: Sometimes TOO sensitive, directions it calculates are sometimes odd.
The Bottom Line: I love this GPS receiver and use it for both car navigation and for hiking and geocaching. It's great both in the car and in the field.
Review: I couldn't wait for this model to come out in January 2006, and I bought one as soon as it was available. The reasons I bought it were: - It has a base map (my old Garmin 12XL had NO map), AND you can purchase the road atlas CDs and download them to ...

A Little Older, but Mature Product

by   fogdrip ,  Oct 13, 2007
Pros: Handheld, compact, rugged, fantastic battery life - IT Works!
Cons: Needs additional Mapsource software, older technology for signal acquisition. Screen harder to see in shade.
The Bottom Line: Older model, but still great - Check that it is priced accordingly. Older chipset harder to get fix in trees or urban setting with tall buildings. Great outdoor general-use Unit.
Review: I bought the Garmin GPSMAP 60C about 3 years ago and can’t imagine traveling without it now. Its features include: Sunlight-readable display with 256-color transreflective TFT display (1.5" W x 2.2" H; 2.6" diagonally); color operating system ...

Best Bang for Your Buck

by   sushimixy2k ,  Jun 20, 2005
Pros: Aquisition time is fast, USB, Long battery life, Easy to read screen
Cons: Additional Map are expensive ex. CitySelect
The Bottom Line: Great quality product for your money. For $240, it suits all my needs and its affordable.
Review: Having own 2 Garmin GPS units, this one is far the best one. I have had the Garmin 12XL and Garmin eTrex Vista. The Garmin eTex Vista was terrible and expensive. I did a lot of hiking with it and it simply did not like any trees and needed a clear ...
