Pros: great battery life, easy to use, great value for features
Cons: some reception problems with heavy tree cover or obstructions
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this product. It offers great value for features and will not let you down.
Review: The Garmin Etrex Venture has definitely served me well since I bought it. My original purpose for purchasing it was for backpacking trips as a supplement to my maps. So far, it has served this purpose well, along with being great for geocaching....

Pros: Small, lightweight, inexpensive and very user friendly.
Cons: Must pay extra for Points of Interest data.
The Bottom Line: The features and user-friendly interface are a great buy. This GPS does far more than I would expect for the price!
Review: In 1997 I received a Magellan 4000XL GPS unit as a gift. At the time I was very impressed with that unit but my enthusiasm waned as I worked with it more. It was heavy and cumbersome on hikes, slow to link up with satellites, not user friendly and ate...

Pros: Accurate, Features, battery life.
Cons: Initial Tracking time
The Bottom Line: I reccomend this to any military personnel, hiker, etc. Very versatile
Review: Being in the Army Infantry, I get to use equipment that most people don't ever use in their lives. And in the case of GPS, you'd better just stick to this Garmin. The first time I used the Military Plugger (which is almost Identical to a 12-year-old...

Pros: Rugged, dependable, Weather proof, light weight, very simple, accurate, separate compass and barometer
Cons: the screen could be in color and have resolution better.
The Bottom Line: The Garmin eTrex is Hardcore. GET ONE! or GET LOST!
Review: I have been backpacking most of my life. Very few products I've used have been able to stand up to the rigors of Serious outdoor use, while still keeping within an acceptable weight verses function Ratio. The eTrex Ventura is fun, easy to use, and an...

Pros: Small, light, excellent display, battery life, price
Cons: Click stick for left-handers, case separate and blocks antenna
The Bottom Line: Excellent for Geocaching and hiking. It's waterproof, easy to use, light, and best of all, reasonably priced.
Review: I've had my Venture for about a month and have used it extensively while Geocaching (http://www.geocaching.com). The unit is small (4.4 x 2 x 1.2 inches) and light (5.3 ounces) and nicely designed to fit in your hand. Your left hand, that is. Garmin...

Pros: Small, Lightweight, Accurate, Cheap, Easy to Use
Cons: A minor one - no external antenna jack
The Bottom Line: It does everything it says it does exceptionally well, and for a great price.
Review: I have been more than pleased with the Garmin etrex Venture. I paid around $150 for it at www.4x4books.com, although I saw them going for much less on ebay recently. It came with a serial interface cable that I have never used. I spent about 30 minutes...

Pros: Best bag for the buck. Compact and light.
Cons: Didn't come with any AC/DC plug.
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a beginner's unit, spend the extra cash and get this unit. For the $25 different it is well worth it.
Review: Great beginners unit. For alittle more than the basic "yellow" Etrex. This unit is a steal. I purchased mine for less than $150 shipped to my door. My unit is 1 1/2 years old. This unit still holds it value. there are used one for $100 on line.

Pros: Inexpensive, easy to use, quite accurate
Cons: Sometimes balky controls, no base map
The Bottom Line: Great unit for Hiking, GeoCaching, or other uses that don't require mapping functions. Light, easy to use, accurate, inexpensive, and rugged.
Review: We (as a family) own several GPS units from several manufacturers, mostly Garmin. I purchased the eTrex Venture model for my wife, primarily for GeoCaching. The small size, low price, high accuracy (it is WAAS enabled, and routinely gets ...

Pros: Small, light, usable with one hand, easy to learn, generally accurate
Cons: Loses signal easily, no terrain features.
The Bottom Line: I like my Venture, it's small, cheap, and easy...just remember to never trust technology 100%.
Review: My dad got me a handheld GPS receiver (GPSr) for Christmas last year -- the Garmin eTrex Venture. It came with a lanyard and a serial cable to connect it to a computer. I haven't used the cable, but I've used the heck out of the GPSr, and I like it! ...

Pros: Small size, Rock solid, TRULY waterproof, Very reliable, Free firmware updates, Good Battery Life.
Cons: No detailed Mapping, Controls require patience, Expensive Accessories/Software.
The Bottom Line: This GPS reciever is very reliable. While some things I would change, it has all the fundamentals. All around fantastic product which has served me very well!
Review: A year ago, I didn't even know what GPS was. I have come a long way in that time. My Etrex Venture was given to me in brand new shape by a family member that had never used it. I learned a little more about the technology, and since have put the ...
