We're Bigger Than US Steel: The Godfather: Part II

by   George_Chabot , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Aug 3, 2001
Pros: Acting, Screenplay, Photography, Editing, Score
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: Al Pacino puts in the performance of his career. Robert DiNiro shows how the family was formed.
Review: And when they were in the field together, Cain rose up and slew his brother. Holy Bible

"I don't want to kill everybody, Tom, just my enemies." In this, we have the thesis of The Godfather: Part II. We see the icy, cold...

What My Father Didn't Know

by   bilavideo ,  Sep 15, 2005
Pros: brutally honest
Cons: not the classic mythos, but a detonation of it
The Bottom Line: This is a classic that replaced a classic, though lovers of the original see it as a redheaded stepchild. It took the next generation to see its value.
Review: There's a conventional wisdom about this sequel to what many regard as "the greatest movie ever made." Despite the hot wind of critical praise, most who've seen it - including my father, a bona-fide Godfather fanatic - consider it to be the ugly brother ...

Keep Your Friends Close but Your Enemies Closer...

by   thevoid99 , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Apr 6, 2006
Pros: Directing, Script, Cinematography, Score, Look, Editing, & Cast.
Cons: None.
The Bottom Line: The Godfather, Part II is a Classic Sequel from Francis Ford Coppola & Co. with Classic Performances from Pacino, de Niro, Strasberg, Cazale, Duvall, and Everyone Else.
Review: For many movies, especially franchises. Sequels are often done to either cash in on a previous film's success or in continuation with a story. Yet there are some sequels that are even better than the original film in terms of its storyline and ...

Godfather II, You Can't Have One Without The Other.

by   popsrocks ,  Feb 6, 2007
Pros: Incredible storyline and directing
Cons: They filmed a Godfather III
The Bottom Line: The Godfather II gives the viewer a deeper sense of who the Godfather, Vito Corleone, was and advances the end of the original film following Michael Corleone, his heir.
Review: The Godfather is my all-time favorite film. It's difficult to follow perfection. Godfather II did. Two Stories The prequel gives insight into Vito Corleone the protagonist of The Godfather revealing his early life as a ...

A Sequel That Will Break Your Heart

by   mfunk75 , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Aug 26, 2002
Pros: It really is as good as the first part, Cazale's Fredo just breaks my heart
Cons: Formulaic
The Bottom Line: The hype says this is the greatest sequel of all time. The hype, for once, is right.
Review: Despite its status as arguably the best movie sequel of all time (I suspect some will naysay this point; not I), "The Godfather: Part II" is in some ways quite formulaic. Following a rigid template he set up in "The Godfather: Part I", Francis Ford...

A Garsh-Darn Good Gangster Film

by   expre ,  Dec 22, 2000
Pros: One of the best movies ever made -- how can you go wrong?
Cons: Some scenes are dark...yeah, I know, I can't find any con's.
Review: "That's not me, Kay, that's my family," says Michael Corleone in The Godfather: Part I. And we want to believe him, we really do. Why? Maybe Pacino just has an honest face. Or maybe we want the fishes to sleep by themselves and the...

The sequel to top all sequels

by   carl_lazarevic , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Jul 30, 2003
Pros: Acting, soundtrack, cinematography, story telling. Everything.
Cons: The non linear structure may not be liked by everyone.
The Bottom Line: If The Godfather was perfect then The Godfather Part 2 can only be described as transcendent.
Review: It's a rare thing in the movie world to find a sequel that lives up to the original, and an even rarer thing when you manage to come across a sequel that is widely accepted as actually surpassing it's heritage. Off the top of my head I can think of only ...

Even Cold Hearted Men Struggle

by   chamath ,  Dec 22, 2003
Pros: Every dramatic element.......!!!!!!!
Cons: Nada, zip, zero, nothing.......
The Bottom Line: The Greatest film of all time in my opinions, lacks in nothing.
Review: The Godfather Part Two, the story of man willing to do anything to protect his family, no matter what the cost and especially no matter the questions of morality involved. The transition of power from father to son is complete in this episode of the ...

I know it was you Fredo: Godfather II

by   leperkahn ,  Apr 19, 2005
Pros: -Acting -Lighting -Framing -Violence -Drama
Cons: The only con is that part three isn't as good.
The Bottom Line: Absolutly recommend this film to anyone who studies cinema, or at least knows the difference between greatness and Pee-Wee's playhouse. If you like gangster flicks, this is an Oscar winner.
Review: As a huge fan of the Godfather series, (yes I even like part three) I have to say that part two is my personal favorite. Part one shows us the title of Godfather being passed from Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) to his son Michael (Al Pacino). The ...

"At this moment, all we have is our friendship."

by   JackFoley ,  Sep 26, 2000
Pros: Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, direction, symbolism, plot, score
Cons: none
Review: It amazes me how such a simple approach and structure for a sequel could be woven into such a masterpiece. How the original could be so outdone in many of the same ways. And most of all, how Francis Ford Coppola can make dramatic and symbolic something...
