Duritz and the Crows Make This One Count

by   dxbari ,  Jul 10, 2002
Pros: Their best since August, one of the best albums of the year.
Cons: That it took them two albums to hit their stride again.
The Bottom Line: The coast is clear, Counting Crows fans, it's safe to come back. An excellent album of folk-rockers wall-to-wall. This might be the album that converts the non-believers.
Review: Let's be honest, Counting Crows have been in a slump. Still a good band, good music, but August and Everything After was starting to look more and more like T. Bone Burnett pulled a major coup with the production and maybe they weren't as good as...

Satisfies my sweet tooth

by   jvandegr ,  Jul 10, 2002
Pros: A lot of tried-and-true Counting Crows music with a touch of refinement.
Cons: huh?
The Bottom Line: Recommended for all Counting Crows fans and anyone who enjoyed "August and Everything After."
Review: First, you should know I've been a Counting Crows fan since day one. Specifically, I've always admired Adam Duritz's incredible songwriting ability and how remarkably dynamic their music is. However, I have NOT liked every single song they've written...

hard candy tastes really good

by   duke101 ,  Jul 10, 2002
Pros: every song is like a single
Cons: why couldn't they cover a better song for the hidden track?
The Bottom Line: I don't know about best Counting Crows album ever, but it's really, really amazing!
Review: Now I'm not going to say what all the other reviews said about this being the only other good Counting Crows album besides "August and Everything After," I'll just get that out of the way. I'm not denying it, this is an amazing album, and it's some of...

Best album yet of 2002

by   coloryouin ,  Aug 4, 2002
Pros: Much more well produced than their last album (thanks to Steve Lillywhite)
Cons: Song no. 11
The Bottom Line: Beautifully produced, very strong lyrically and some of the catchiest Counting Crows songs ever. Far better than 99% of music out there.
Review: Adam Duritz has proven again that he is a fabulous artist. This band that has been together for 10 years and has only released 4 albums, mainly because Adam puts so much thought into each track. The first song, Hard Candy, is fabulous, a classic Crows...

Hard Candy Easy To Swallow

by   linear_north ,  Nov 30, 2002
Pros: Precision without major studio use. Adam Duritz amazing lyrics
Cons: Let's see...Nope, I got nuthin'.
The Bottom Line: This music touches a chord in everyone. You haven't lived until you are exposed to Counting Crows.
Review: Counting Crows have done it again. The new release Hard Candy is another chapter in the legacy that is the Counting Crows. The first single "American Girls" is a wonderful tale backed by the wonderful vocals of Sheryl Crow. There are many...

Hard Candy

by   tjlyerly ,  Oct 23, 2002
Pros: Each song is a piece of hard candy.
Cons: You can't eat too much candy.
The Bottom Line: Buy this album and all the Counting Crows albums before it.
Review: Counting Crows take time to release a new album. Three years have gone by between each of the four, but the end result is always worth the wait. They attempt different styles on each of their albums, but the quality of lyrics and general catchiness is...

OUR OLD COUNTING CROWS ARE BACK

by   jmtdak01 ,  Jun 12, 2002
Pros: MUCH LIKE THE FIRST ALBUM
Cons: NONE
The Bottom Line: YOU CAN ACTUALLY LISTEN TO THE WHOLE CD - NOT JUST A FEW SONGS
Review: I WAS ABLE TO OBTAIN THIS CD LONG BEFORE IT WAS RELEASED - IF YOU LIKE THE FIRST ALBUM BY COUNTING CROWS YOU HAVE TO BUY THIS ONE. THERE IS A LOT OF SONGS THAT ARE VERY SIMILAR TO THE FIRST ALBUM THAT WE ALL KNOW AND LOVE - THE FIRST SONG RELEASED ON...

Awesome

by   techgeek419 ,  Apr 25, 2003
Pros: one of their best yet
Cons: nobody knows
The Bottom Line: Versatile, moving, and inspiring. Well worth checking out.
Review: For any Counting Crows fan this is a welcomed addition to their fine collection of works. It begins with a somewhat pop-like track of "Hard Candy", and finishes off with a slow melody of "Holiday in Spain" - with a hidden track of "Big Yellow Taxi". ...

"fix your hair just right; put your jeans on tight"

by   Stairway2Drew , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Oct 15, 2004
Pros: Exquisite pop arrangements; Adam's voice is magnificent.
Cons: Still no album-length masterpiece from the Crows.
The Bottom Line: in 2002, Hard Candy came along, a slight left turn into more upbeat territory; and i suppose it kinda makes sense that it'd wind up being my favorite Crows album.
Review: I once dismissed the Counting Crows as "seasonal Americana," pleasant-but-inconsequential nu-classic-rock that i'd have great fun listening to on a long drive to the beach with the windows down during a given summer, but would shelve once the leaves ...

They still make me cry

by   Guildenstern , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Jul 14, 2002
Pros: I have no idea where to start
Cons: Seriously, that's not funny
The Bottom Line: Vintage Counting Crows, brilliant, intense, simply wonderful
Review: Counting Crows are back for their fourth outing, and yet again the band has outdone itself and produced another batch of brilliant songs spanning all kinds of feelings, tones, emotions and musical genres. “This Desert Life” was a tough gig to follow, and...
