Art With an Edge

by   abhaille ,  May 2, 2008
Pros: Stunning collections of contemporary art. Interesting artist interviews.
Cons: Some images are explicit.
The Bottom Line: This magazine will open your eyes and then rivet them to your skull.
Review: I teach AP History of Art which is a survey course. It's hard to cover the entirety of the history of visual representation in two short semesters, but I try. Art History, like World History is very fast-paced. To cover so much in a year we have to go ...

Spray paint is from mars, truck stop hookers are from venus

by   kung_fu_chimp ,  Aug 20, 2001
Pros: all joking aside, this is my favorite magazine
Cons: VERY hard to find.
The Bottom Line: Lowbrow art Mecca, the Davy Crockett of the new generation's perspective on the creative scene. This is what's to come in the future and I like it.
Review: To start things off before you hit me with a brick; This is part of the Poetically Challenged Write-Off; sponsored by Imokliel, BaddKittyM, and Thom413 and the participants are as follows:

The new movement in art

by   Nymbus7 ,  Dec 29, 2000
Pros: Completely fresh & new.
Cons: May not appeal to uptight people.
Review: Juxtapoz is the magazine for people who think fine art is too flaky or pretentious. The new movement of lowbrow, nobrow and folk art comes together in this publication by lowbrow art guru Robert Williams. These are the artists who are talented enough to...

Star in a constellation of modern art

by   modchick ,  Dec 28, 2000
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
Review: Juxtapoz is dispassionate in a romantic and violent society. It's vision is not dazzled by the neons which rainbow the night. It has the X-ray eye that penetrates the blacktop and fog. It has the gift of tongue, and is poetic. Metophoric visions...

Lowbrow Lowdown

by   ChuckKey ,  May 24, 2001
Pros: Spectacular articles and interviews with the artists who matter most to artists.
Cons: The only thing I can complain about is that it's not a weekly publication.
The Bottom Line: Juxtapoz is the best way to see who's on the cutting edge of lowbrow and underground art.
Review: I don't just consider Juxtapoz a magazine. I consider it a muse, an inspiration, and a beacon of hope for creativity in the new millineum. Every issue is packed with diverse, in-depth stories and interviews that never fail to impress me. And unlike...

For Those Who Don't Hate Art!

by   tser1r ,  Apr 11, 2001
Pros: Beautiful, hard to find art of all styles. Open-minded and intelligent.
Cons: none from me whatsoever.
The Bottom Line: The less een side of art is offered to the public at last, from Robert Williams to Graffitti king Twist you .....
Review: If you are a fan of art in any way then you will probably find soimething aesthetically appealing in this magazine..month after month. The broad range of artwork displayed by this magazine is incredible. While a majority is modern art, the featured...
