Humor in a Jugular Vein: Mad Magazine

by   George_Chabot ,  May 3, 2007
Pros: Satire, parody, surprisingly on the mark
Cons: Not everybody has a good sense of humor
The Bottom Line: Mad Magazine is the longest-lived parody magazine that satirizes all aspects of life. Well worth your time if you enjoy a good laugh.
Review: Humor in a Jugular Vein: Mad Magazine Everything you need to know can be found within the pages of Mad magazine, be it news, media, politics, the latest fad; chances are Mad has covered it. Global warming? Yep, the latest issue covers ...

I'm MADly in love with this Magazine!

by   cascogirl ,  Sep 11, 2005
Pros: immature, satirical comics. A funny break away from the world.
Cons: costly in relation to time it takes to read.
The Bottom Line: If you love gory, gross out humor, MAD will provide it! If you purchase frequently it is much cheaper to subscribe
Review: MAD Magazine Tuesday afternoon I woke up from having surgery. I was in my plain sterile hospital room awaiting a visit from my husband. He eventually showed up, and he was my hero that day. He came with flowers, mini chocolate bars, and lo and behold, ...

Mad About This Great Magazine

by   head-driller ,  Apr 24, 2003
Pros: The humor, the satire, the parodies, the artwork, the intelligence.
Cons: Some segments not as good as others, ads, and some issues are too short.
The Bottom Line: Easily one of the best magazines of all-time and a true comedic landmark.
Review: Mad Magazine is probably one of the longest-running magazines ever (debuting way back in 1952). The magazine has been extremely successful with a large and dedicated fanbase, merchandise aplenty (toys, t-shirts, compilations, video games, etc. and ...

It ought to be a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad world.

by   Justin_Cord ,  Aug 27, 2003
Pros: Since National Lampoon folded, there's no better social satire mag around.
Cons: Silly adults, Mad is for kids!
The Bottom Line: Mad is not kid stuff. It's got mordant wit and biting satire, and you should go buy it right now.
Review: Mad is the only magazine I enjoyed as a child that I still enjoy as an adult - with the possible exc ...

My Kind Of Humor

by   galileo365 ,  May 16, 2000
Pros: funny
Cons: only 100 pages
Review: I love this magazine. I have been reading it since I was a kid, and I still enjoy it. I strongly believe that I developed my warped sense of humor from years of reading. This magazine is for people who don't take life too seriously, so if you're anal...

Ramblings and Ravings Dept.

by   thealphonse ,  Jul 22, 2004
Pros: Funny parodies, great artwork, in-your-face humor
Cons: Don Martin, Dave Berg, Bill Gaines, all dead and gone. Plus Mad now has ads.
The Bottom Line: I'd rather spend eternity talking on the phone with telemarketers than cancel my subscription to MAD
Review: "Who is that slithering blob... drawing nearer... and nearer...?" "It's Melvin!" These were the words of the cover on the very first Mad Magazine (formerly titled 'Tales Calculated To Drive You Mad). Back in the early 50s, however, Mad articles ...

Now I remember why my childhood was so deranged...

by   jeffs320 ,  Oct 1, 2000
Pros: Funny, disgusting, deranged
Cons: Funny, Disgusting, Deranged (hehehe)
Review: I was walking through the magazine section at the grocery store the other day (it's a good way to get out of grocery shopping with the wife - stop and grab a magazine and fake interest until she walks away to finish the shopping and then you are free,...

Totally Mad, CD Version, Buy It NOW

by   buffoonery ,  Feb 28, 2000
Pros: Great buy, trip down memory lane
Cons: Sophomoric humor--but what else did you expect?
Review: This is a seven-CD set of every issue of Mad Magazine from the EC comic book format of 1952 through 1998, put out by Broderbund. I'm writing this review here because I can't find the product listed anywhere else--if it belongs somewhere else comment on...

America's best cultural magazine? Am I "Mad?"

by   32_Footsteps ,  Jun 28, 2000
Pros: Consistently funny humor, classic features mixed in with new favorites, Nuanced humor
Cons: Some jokes fall flat, Monroe is forgettible
Review: I'm sure everyone remembers their first issue of Mad Magazine. It was odd, uproariously funny, and immature enough for everyone. My first issue was when I was about twelves, when my mom bought me an issue to read at the orthopedic surgeon's office (I...
