Get to Know a Lighter Version of the 4077th with M*A*S*H - Season 1

by   bilbopooh ,  May 24, 2009
Pros: fantastic characters, very funny, serious issues, Tuttle, The Longjohn Flap
Cons: no Potter, B. J. or Charles, a bit less serious than later seasons
The Bottom Line: Season one of M*A*S*H gets the show off to a great start.
Review: I grew up on M*A*S*H. It's been one of my favorite TV shows for as long as I can remember. It used to be in reruns almost constantly, so I watched quite a bit of it, though I don't think it was until high school that I got to know the first wave ...

Dear Dad, the People Here are Crazy.

by   shroud ,  Apr 19, 2007
Pros: Excellent ensemble cast, brilliant scripts, realistic plotlines, extremely funny yet poignant, quality transfers
Cons: no extras on the discs but quality paper inserts
The Bottom Line: This would be a crime to miss, as this set the standard all other military dramedies were to try to follow.
Review: War is not funny. It is many things, but war itself is not funny. But in the most horrible of places and times that people in war find themselves in, there are the moments of great irony. It is these moments that MASH brings so poignantly to our screens, ...

Korea, 1950... One Hundred Years Ago

by   dmxrob ,  Mar 19, 2003
Pros: Fond memories of the classic show; With or without laughtrack
Cons: No trailers
The Bottom Line: A classic television journey to one of the worst places on earth that noone wanted to be at.
Review: Growing up in the late 1970's and early 1980's it was a ritual around our house for dad to turn the TV onto M*A*S*H every week and relive one of the darker periods of American military action through humor. This was a show that could make you cry and...

"Henry, you're not going to endorse this major idiot's application, are you?"

by   alexdg1 ,  Jul 22, 2006
Pros: Some really great episodes, including the pilot and "Ceasefire"
Cons: A few lesser episodes. Otherwise, none.
The Bottom Line: Although the series' first season has a bit of "trial and error" feel, this collection shows why M*A*S*H deserves its status as a classic TV comedy.
Review: Although M*A*S*H had already had two successful incarnations as a best-selling novel by Richard Hooker (real name, Richard Hornberger) and the hit film adaptation by director Robert Altman, it is the 1972-1983 TV series that most of us are ...

The start of a great TV series

by   dolphinboy ,  Jul 8, 2008
Pros: Almost all the acting; episode "Sometimes You Hear the Bullet"
Cons: Two of the actors, excessive absurdity and goofiness.
The Bottom Line: Except for a weak spots, that were corrected, later in the series, this is great dark comedy blended with drama.
Review: In 1968, Richard Hooker published a novel called MASH: A Novel About Three Army Doctors about his experience in the 8055th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War. A movie version came out in 1970. Many better, however, know the ...
