by   markharris ,  Mar 9, 2006
Pros: USER INTERFACE! Size, Rechargeable, MAP Accuracy, Voice
Cons: Limited temperature range 32F to 115F, Spinning hard disk may have reliability concerns?
The Bottom Line: User Interface is key! Roadmate 800 is top of the line with millions of users testing and refining it daily.
Review: OK, Magellan has outdone itself. I have owned the previous 500 and 700 series Roadmate units, and with each one of Magellan's Roadmate units, it keeps refining the main goal: Providing EASY access to real-time driving directions. One main comment I ...

by   larryk1000 ,  Nov 11, 2005
Pros: Great screen. Fast computer. Lots of data. Easy to use. Really good suction mount.

The Bottom Line: This is a great unit. I researched it and made the right choice. It's precisely what I was looking for.
Review: (Read Below for My Update ONE YEAR LATER and another Update (dated Nov. 13) which I wrote after this first section was written:) I bought the Roadmate 800 at Sharper Image earlier this week. I sat in the parking lot, opened the box, read the Manual ...

by   gomadrid ,  May 22, 2006
Pros: Size, sophistication, features, ease of use, good screen.
Cons: Need to update the software more frequently
The Bottom Line: The price, features, quality, and usability make this a total winner!
Review: I bought the unit at Costco because of the price and the return policy, thinking that if I did not like it would be no problem to take it back. Buying it at Costco was also a strategy to use with my wife since it was pretty expensive. But after I had ...

Review: I got my Roadmate from J&R through Amazon and it was great for about a week. (More on that later.) It was easy to use, just type in the address of where I was going and it gave me a choice of fastest route, shortest route, most use of freeways and ...

Review: This is my 3rd GPS. My first was an Old Garmin that you had to download maps to the tiny 18MB of RAM. God forbid, I drove outside the downloaded maps or it would stop. Recalculating routes to 20 minutes while driving. Second GPS was with my Palm ...

Pros: Easy to use and many POI's and maps
Cons: takes some time to acquire satellites and locks up sometimes
The Bottom Line: Great price for many features
Review: The first time I ever tried any type of GPS device was while I was vacationing in Germany. Not only were the roads confusing but the way the most European countries direct you by road signs is by routing you toward a city instead of what direction ...

Definitely worth the money, but a few problems

by   debbiesthemes ,  Jun 22, 2006
Pros: It is a wonderful tool to maneuver through congested cities.
Cons: New streets not updated enough and rural areas sketchy.
The Bottom Line: It's worth the money despite the minor frustrations. Even though the directions may be off sometimes, it's great peace of mind to know you aren't truly lost.
Review: To begin with, let me just say that I'm glad I bought this. I live on the outskirts of Los Angeles, but HATE to drive there, and this is a wonderful tool to find my way around. Since others have written about how great this is, I'm going to focus on the ...

Great GPS but windshield mount is horrible

by   deefl ,  Jul 1, 2006
Pros: Huge database of POI's. Very easy to use.
Cons: Windshield mount is HORRIBLE!!! Voice is not loud enough.
The Bottom Line: I recommend this GPS but beware of the horrible windshield mount that comes with the unit.
Review: I love the Magellan 800 GPS and POI functions but the windshield mount that comes with the 800 has a ball and socket that renders the windshield mount practically useless. The GPS is constantly jiggling, moving, and jumping around, even when the bottom ...
