If you like Sheryl Crow or Sarah McLachlan, check this out..

by   JediKermit ,  Jan 3, 2001
Pros: Aimee Mann in an amazing album
Cons: Supertramp? What the????
Review: Or even if you don't. I like some Sheryl Crow, but Sarah McLachlan puts me right to sleep. Nice voice, but I'm not a fan of her songs. Aimee Mann, on the Magnolia Soundtrack, has made a nice combination of fast and slower paced songs that I find...

Aimee In Bloom

by   pmills1210 ,  Aug 8, 2000
Pros: Good overview of Mann in the nineties
Cons: Only nine Aimee Mann songs? Not enough!
Review: The Aimee Mann songs included on the soundtrack of "Magnolia" are a perfect fit for Paul Thomas Anderson's fascinating film about a group of people struggling to find peace and belonging in life. In the last decade, Mann has been trying to find...

The Queen of "up the establishment" continues to reign

by   novemberme ,  Jun 23, 2001
Pros: Proof that even the best can get better!
Cons: The addition of songs by other artists at the end of the album.
The Bottom Line: Bottom line, you should definitely already own this CD if you are an Aimee Mann fan, and you will become a fan once you DO own it.
Review: Before I start, I am going to admit that I am an Aimee Mann junkie. Since the first moment she stood up and yelled "He said, SHUT UP, he said, SHUT UP" on MTV, I have been an avid, if not rabid, fan. As I sit here looking at my stack of every CD she...

"Now that I've met you..."

by   wandajune6 ,  Oct 18, 2000
Pros: incredible music, crucial to the film
Cons: none
Review: One of my earliest reviews was of the movie "Magnolia." I spent the majority of the review raving about the soundtrack, so I figure that it is about time that I put the review of the soundtrack into the correct category.

I LOVE...

A night blooming soundtrack for Magnolia

by   OdellBurgess ,  May 23, 2000
Pros: Songwriting is superb, immensely listenable
Cons: Some songs duplicated on Mann's new album
Review: From the folksy song stylings of former Til' Tuesday frontwoman, Aimee Mann to the fond-chuckle-inducing Supertramp anthems, the Magnolia soundtrack is a work of art. Like it's predecessor, the gloriously silly Boogie Nights soundtrack,...

Aimee Mann helps delivers mature, emotional soundtrack

by   mfontan ,  Dec 27, 2000
Pros: Aimee Mann's nine engaging, lyrical songs
Cons: Other tracks seem out of place
Review: GRADE: A-

It’s hard to believe, but many people once considered Aimee Mann a one hit wonder.

During the mid-1980s, she and fellow members of the band ’Til Tuesday achieved worldwide fame with their hit "Voices Carry," but...

One word: INCREDIBLE

by   verbalgirl ,  Oct 30, 2000
Pros: everything
Cons: "Dreams" -- I mean, come ON...
Review: From the moment I put this CD in my player, I knew it wouldn't be coming out for a long time. This is an amazing album from an amazing movie... what more do I need? Aimee Mann is an amazingly talented artist, and I totally understand why director Paul...

The Music=The Movie=The Music

by   wrand ,  Aug 11, 2000
Pros: Great Lyrics, Gives A Better Understanding of the Movie
Cons: Tracks at the end are forgettable
The Bottom Line: Worth it for all the great Aimee Mann songs, but other than that I wouldn't recommend it.
Review: Okay this CD has a really interesting story behind it. There is a song on this CD "Deathly" which contains the line "Now that I've met you would you object to never seeing me again" That single line was the inspiration for the original movie Magnolia....

Sweet Godiva in a Bubblegum Pop world

by   wunderkind44 ,  Jul 18, 2000
Pros: Wonderful lyrics
Cons: There's only 13 songs!
Review: Could there be a better soundtrack out there?

Aimee Mann sings nine of the 13 wonderful songs on this soundtrack. You can't go wrong.

It's Joni Mitchell meets Fiona Apple when you put this disc in your CD player. The lyrics are...

Wise Up And Buy This Album

by   kidhendrix ,  Oct 21, 2000
Pros: Extremely creative, original songs by Aimee Mann, in addition to a very cool cover of "One"
Cons: A lack of depth towards the end of the album, especially in Gabrielle's "Dreams"
Review: A great soundtrack is an album that is full of enjoyable songs that drive or compliment the film it accompanies. Many soundtracks have enjoyable songs, but they contribute little to the film (i.e. "Godzilla"). Every so often though, a...
