An Encompassing Drama

by   countess_eva ,  Jan 3, 2007
Pros: Highly emotional story, good characterization, entrancing plot, beautiful cinematography.
Cons: Digresses from the original novel somewhat.
The Bottom Line: The entirety of the story is fraught with high emotions and eternal love, something that I believe everyone will find appealing.
Review: After having become entranced by the novel written by Arthur Golden, I was delighted to discover that a movie based on this excellent literature was forthcoming. Although this film was not completely true to the novel, it did parallel many of the ...

I confess: I loved Memoirs of a Geisha!

by   theuerkorn ,  Jan 10, 2006
Pros: Photography, plot, acting, scenery, artistic
Cons: May be too slow paced for some (and too western for purists)
The Bottom Line: It's a long movie that goes by fast if you like the genre.
Review: Alright, with the mixed reviews already submitted on this movie, don't let me bore you with who is in it and what the director supposedly thought when making this movie. This is mostly since I don't know anything about it, nor do I care to repeat the ...

Cons: nothing was missing
The Bottom Line: I think this is a must see film.
Review: I just saw a most interesting film. The title is “Memories of a Geisha” The opinion may be a bit biased as I am an oriental fabric artist. I have looked at films through the eyes of an artist and thus my eyes were opened wider with the new film. The ...

A Glimpse In A Life Of A Geisha

by   femasia ,  Jun 6, 2006
Pros: Enlightening Experience To Acquire & Share
Cons: Can't think of any
Review: This is well-made movie in its authenticity. It's a very cultural film that has very realistic ups and downs of the characters like people would in their daily lives for that era. It's moving, touching, intriguing, and mystifying at the same time. ...

Memoirs Of A Geisha: Step Into The Life Of A Geisha Girl

by   Birdfeather ,  Jun 4, 2006
Pros: Beautiful scenery, a peek into the mystery behind ancient Japanese custom of Geisha girls.
Cons: Movie is a bit long and slow in some places.
The Bottom Line: Although the movie has a few inconsistencies, it is worth watching--at least one time anyway.

Exasperating, Yes, But No Regrets

by   virtuelle2 ,  Jan 23, 2006
Pros: Gentle plot twist, splendid costumes, production design, choreography, cinematography, music; Zhang, Yeoh, Ohgo.
Cons: Excessive vagueness in depiction of character and situation renders the film a bit uninvolving.
The Bottom Line: This could have been a more enchanting movie; thanks to a weak script, it’s merely a pretty and occasionally involving one.
Review: ’Remember, Chiyo, geisha are not courtesans. And we are not wives. We sell our skills, not our bodies. We create another secret world, a place only of beauty. The very word "geisha" means artist and to be a geisha is to be judged as a moving ...
