Life in the Fast Lane

by   countess_eva ,  Jun 29, 2009
Pros: Drives well, 185 horsepower, good shifting, four speed automatic, engine-breaks-accelerator, holds up well with time
Cons: Cheap interior, sound system, and thin seats
The Bottom Line: The 1999 Mercedes SLK 230 makes a great used car that holds up over time and delivers quality and an enjoyable driving experience.
Review: About two years ago I bought a pre-owned 1999 Mercedes SLK 230 complete with karman convertible top. Judging from its appearance, low mileage, and mint condition the car had spent most of its forlorn life gathering dust in someone’s garage. I have ...

1999 SLK, 5-speed - great!

by   bam ,  Aug 29, 1999
Pros: smooth, quiet, great brakes, looks good in yellow
Cons: engine is capable of more power than MB enables, no power seats, CD player must be MB
Review: Prior to buying this car, I had a 1991 Miata and enjoyed it quite a bit. It handled great, but was lacking in power and the soft-top was a bit too noisy for me.

I really wanted the SLK, but the 1998 only came in AT, so I was forced to buy an...

May everyone get a chance!!

by   squidbits ,  Apr 23, 2003
Pros: Feel, fit and general manufacture. One nice car!
Cons: So far, none.
The Bottom Line: Buy it, drive it, have a little fun!!!
Review: I took the leap and bought a benz. What a blast to drive! Top down is the best feeling going and this car is soooo nice to drive. May everyone get the chance to drive a convertable and may it be a MB.

Lots of power too. For a small motor this...

I love my grasshopper car

by   kpwatt ,  Nov 6, 1999
Pros: coolest car I've ever owned!
Cons: I could have bought a subaru and paid 4 poor kids college tuition for a year
Review: OK, I bought this car and I love it so I feel I need to pass on my epinion about it! But, I'm not the kind of person who will wax eloquent about road hugging qualities (it has 'em) and rack and pinon steering (don't know what that is). So why did I buy...

That's my car! ;)

by   kentski ,  Dec 30, 1999
Pros: what an attention grabber!; good gas mileage; great pickup
Cons: even smaller inside than it looks
Review: I actually bought this vehicle on the spur of the moment (from Carpoint.com) and, for the most part, have LOVED it! You almost get *too* much attention with this car -- hardly a drive goes by without someone commenting on the car (I also have mine in...

SPORTs..LIGHT..KOMPRESSOR("SLK")

by   sj1492miles ,  Feb 27, 2000
Pros: both conv. and hardtop
Cons: needs a more powerful engine
Review: This little convertible from Mercedes truly defines the virtues of a true convertible as it combines luxury, performance, and value(even if the base MSRP is priced at $41000, it will definitely be worth it!). First, I couldn't decide whether I wanted a...

The Ultimate year-round convertible

by   Average_Joe ,  Jan 13, 2000
Pros: Hard top convertible, flashy styling, Mercedes luxury
Cons: Limited trunk space when top is down
Review: The Mercedes SLK 230 is the ultimate year round sports car. From the day I drove it off the lot, I have seen jaws drop when the top folds into the trunk. Countless times people have gone out of their way to make a comment on my car.

The hard...

Slk and winter climate

by   william_hill ,  Dec 21, 1999
Pros: styling and steel retractable top
Cons: exhaust note
Review: Living in North Dakota, my cars are subjected to more extreme conditions than most. After driving a Corvette for sometime it was time for a new sports car but one which would better handle the 4 season driving conditions of North Dakota. On my list were...

Slick + German = Perfect

by   k0jak ,  Mar 22, 2000
Pros: Great price
Cons: Not many options
Review: A great investment for me was the SLK230 kompressor. From mercedes for about 42,000 it wasnt a bad deal at all. Its a 2.3 liter two seater roadster with a 4 in-line 16valve engine with a intercooled supercharger and 185 horses.

The top is...

Between the BMWZ3 and my SLK there is no comparison:

by   ptboy ,  Apr 24, 2000
Pros: Quiet, great hardtop conv. roof, comfortable seats.
Cons: None
Review: I drove a BMWZ3 and when the lease ended, I bought my SLK. I could not be happier with the SLK. What a difference there is between these two sport cars. The SLK is better made, quiet and safer. I enjoy the sound system and find the controls very...
