Revisiting the Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF in the digital era. |
|||
|
Pros: Very sharp throughout its range, fast focus, inexpensive, compact, light, reasonably durable.
Cons: Manual focus ring and aperture ring are poorly dampened. Otherwise, no cons for the price.
The Bottom Line: Thanks to the 1.5X crop factor of Nikon digital SLRs, this lens has come alive for me again - razor sharp, fast, light, compact, very inexpensive.
Review: Introduction Nikon and Canon have long offered a fast 50mmm lens. Over the years, these have been available as manual focus lenses, autofocus lenses, and with apertures as wide as f/1.2. Nikon's 50mm f/1.8D AF has long been considered one of ...

One of the Few, the proud, the Nikons! |
|||
|
Pros: Lightweight, small, very sharp, bright and a bargain to boot.
Cons: None I can think of.
The Bottom Line: A great bargain in a normal lens. A Sharp, clear lens that won't break the bank (or your neck when mounted on a NIKON body).
Review: This lens is the newest generation of the venerable Nikon autofocus 50mm f1.8 that was one of the first AF lenses offered by Nikon. This lens, which upgrades the previous version's already impressive sharpness, adds the "D" technology that provides...

50mm f/1.8 Has the Best Optics at a CHEAP price! |
|||
|
Pros: Superb optics, Compact size, cheap!
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: For the best optics with a bargain price, this lens is hard to beat.
Review: Nowadays, when zooms are the norms, a fixed-focal-length lens is often overlooked. At a price of well under $100, this AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 can knock all the variable aperture zooms (particularly in the range 35-70mm, 28-80mm, 28-70mm) off their feet!...

You just can't praise it enough |
|||
|
Pros: Fantastic "bang for the buck", Fantastic low light performance, Amazing optical quality
Cons: zoom with your feet!! If you an MF user, Nikon makes more suitable lenses
The Bottom Line: this lens is a great compliment to your kit, especially if you have a slower zoom lens (F/4).
Review: I had previously passed over the thought of writing a review about this lens. Mostly, it seemed that everyone else had already said everything that needed to be said. Over the weekend I pulled out this little gem and for the 100th time this year I put it ...

Pros: Inexpensive, fast, light, Nikon results
Cons: Not currently available as a D model
The Bottom Line: Nikon's 50mm f/1.8 is a top notch performer and an excellent value.
Review: When I decided to purchase a fixed (non-zooming) lens for my camera, the most common salesperson response to my inquiry for the 50mm lens was what do you want that for? Everyone has gone to a zoom now-a-days. Well in answer to that question I would...

This performance for under $100 is a no-brainer

Pros: Sharpness and contrast, price, better build than equivalent Canon lens
Cons: Bokeh is kinda rough, f/1.8 is too soft for use, lots of plastic
The Bottom Line: I'd love to be the one to say NOT to buy it, but seriously - for under $100 you'd be silly not too. Every photographer should carry one.
Review: As one of the most reviewed, and probably most widely owned Nikon lenses, it doesn't really make sense to write yet another review. But I've always enjoyed my copy of the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D, so why not share? Specs of this little jewel are as ...

Pros: Image quality, portability, cost, ease of use, speed.
Cons: none.
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended if you want to see what your camera can really do. Bad news for anyone on a budget as it will make you desire the expensive, fast, primes!
Review: This is a must have lens. The lens can be had for around $100, and I've yet to see any Nikon lens that can produce similar image quality, for anywhere near this price. Most DSLR beginners will end up with slow zoom lenses that will handicap even the ...

Pros: Cheap, light, sharp, fast
Cons: none
Review: This is the must have lens! We probably all started our photo career with a 50mm on an old body at some point in time. And there is good reason for that. The fact that this lens is the closest in perspective as your eyes is a major plus. Major plus, in...

Pros: SHARP! Doubles as slide viewing loupe
Cons: Very hard to keep clean
Review: After spending over a year putting up with the consumer-grade zoom that I got with my Nikon N60, I decided that it was time to follow the advice of EVERYBODY that ever talked to me about photography: get a prime lens.
Since I could not afford... |

Pros: INEXPENSIVE & RAZOR SHARP
Cons: HOW COULD THERE BE ANY
Review: I am a NIKON user & have a few lenses in my kit. The NIKON A/F 50 mm 1.8 is the sharpest of all& i have what i consider some very good lenses.
Compared to my 80-200 2.8, & 24 2.8 this inexpensive little lens is what i use when sharpness... |
