Not A Crook

by   Goatius ,  Mar 24, 2000
Pros: Marvelous direction, utterly amazing performance, especially Hopkins
Cons: A little long and intense, Nixon's not the most popular figure
Review: Oliver Stone's surprisingly sympathetic look at our most beleaguered president is top notch filmmaking, taking and improving on the super-auteur style he seemed to first concoct with 1991's JFK. But Nixon holds together much better over its...

NIXON: "When they look at me, they see themselves." True on 11/2/04? YUP!!

by   macresarf1 , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Oct 30, 2004
Pros: A magnificent film to contemplate while looking toward the dark future after President Bush's victory.
Cons: Some will say Stone is too easy on Nixon; others that he is too hard.
The Bottom Line: Oliver Stone, in his finest picture, suggests why we came to George Bush and John Kerry. He also gives a compelling, almost sympathetic portrait of Richard Nixon, a troubled man.
Review: THE MOVIE: Strangely enough -- or perhaps not -- NIXON begins in 1972 with a 16 mm. salesmen's training film, which "The Plumbers" of White House Intelligence Consultant E. Howard Hunt (Ed Harris, later seen surreally) watch for their cover story ...

One Tricky Dick

by   toiletoctopus ,  Aug 27, 2006
Pros: Outstanding Production, Cast, Interesting
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: This is a great look at the life of Richard Nixon.
Review: This movie starts out in ominous fashion, as the Chief of Staff approaches President Richard Nixon. He tells him that there is some bad news, and that it relates to him. Apparently, someone decided to write "Dick Nixon is a Worthless Prick" on the snow ...

Nixon-a complicated movie about a complicated man

by   jillmkk ,  Nov 7, 2000
Pros: wonderful acting, great directing and editing
Cons: the viewer may forget that it is historical fiction
Review: For those of you that live under a rock and don't know, today is Election Day in the US. The presidential race is extremely close, and is being compared on a daily basis to the 1960 campaign of Kennedy vs. Nixon. Kennedy did win that election by a slim...

Nixon: A Complex Portrait

by   serc ,  Oct 15, 2000
Pros: amazing characterization of Nixon
Cons: takes a long time to absorb this one
Review: In honor of the upcoming elections, I am viewing and reviewing one movie with a political theme each week until the week of November 7th. This week I chose to watch Nixon, the excellent 1995 film directed by Oliver Stone.

Nixon ~ Looking for Deep Throat

by   susidee34 , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  May 28, 2000
Pros: Entire cast was worthy
Cons: .........
Review: While not welcomed at the box office, I thought this movie was decently good. Although some thought the lead should have been given to someone else (who could you find that looked more like Nixon in this role?) I thought the choice of Anthony Hopkins as...

Nothing short of a Masterpiece!

by   williamchurch ,  Jan 20, 2003
Pros: Great plot, great acting, fantastic visuals, great sound, etc.
Cons: Not for those who want a no thought Dumb and Dumber style movie.
The Bottom Line: This movie will be analyzed and discussed in film classes 100 years from now. Nothing short of a masterpiece. A must have in the DVD collection.
Review: This is a movie that everyone knows how it ends, however it keeps you entertained. Why, because it is not the story that is so entertaining but how the story is told. There is so much information throughout the movie that you can watch the movie five...

Anthony Hopkins at his very best

by   protonsmom ,  Jul 25, 2001
Pros: Amazing performances by an all star cast
Cons: none that I can think of
The Bottom Line: if you have missed this one, go rent it and sit for the 191 minutes and take it all in.
Review: I mean I know Anthony Hopkins is one of the best in the business right now but this movie just floored me. He was truely amazing.

I was born during the Nixon administration so I really have no memory of the man himself. Just the stuff I have...

Richard I: Nixon

by   kevincmurphy ,  Dec 1, 1999
Pros: Compelling and cathartic character study of RMN approaches Shakespearean heights of grandeur.
Cons: It's 3 hours long, and it takes a while to get used to Sir Anthony Hopkins in the title role.
Review: In a review of Richard Loncraine's wonderful film version of Richard III, Newsweek was unashamed to label William Shakespeare "the Oliver Stone of his day." Entertainment Weekly, in their rave review of Nixon, unabashedly dubbed the film...

I'm just waiting for Oliver Stone's "REAGAN".....

by   JediKermit , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Jun 25, 2001
Pros: Anthony Hopkins is incredible in his portrayal...
Cons: There have probably been historic "liberties" taken in Stone's film...but it's still good
The Bottom Line: "Sometimes I understand why they hate you." Pat to Dick
Review: I honestly don't know that much about the life and times of Richard Milhouse Nixon. So I can't be sure if all of the twists and turns of Nixon's life and career are being accurately depicted or not. I do know that "NIXON," directed by Oliver Stone, was...
