Chuck

Pros: Very good scanner at a cheap price.
Cons: The scanner takes more time to warm up than my last scanner.(cold cathode light)
Review: I purchased the 9420 from Sam's for about $80. I have scanned in hundreds of 35mm slides and pictures from 300 to 4800 dpi. The unit is fast and easy to operate. I use Adobe Photo Shop 7 and really have found no limitations. If you have a page of up ...

Excellent scanner

by   wyldndn ,  Dec 12, 2005
Pros: Excellent quality. easy set up. overall... I'm very happy!!
Cons: you have to read the manual to understand the features.not a major problem.
Review: I found this scanner at Sam's club. It's definitely a great scanner. I haven't figured out how to scan 35mm negatives yet, but I'm positive it'll be worthwhile. Scanning full size pics & 3x5 pics is easy enough & the quality was excellent! ...

Decent for the price, kind of quirky

by   xpxalot ,  Sep 16, 2008
Pros: price, scan quality, availability of tech support
Cons: quirky, too many limitations on slide scanning
The Bottom Line: To scan photos and basic documents, simple editing, etc., fine.  If you want consistent smooth operation and are willing to pay more, look elsewhere.
Review: This is the 3rd Visioneer scanner I've owned. They are ALL quirky. But let's get the good out first. The scanner is easy to use, and I like the slide and negative scanning features. The digital quality is adjustable, so you can do something ...

Good scanner, but cant recommend it unless you don't mind taking it apart....

by   dacaur ,  Jan 14, 2007
Pros: I like how it opens on the long edge instead of the short edge
Cons: "the scanner optical module is locked" - see description
Review: After about 6 months of use I started getting the message "the scanner optical module is locked" along with a horrible grinding noise. I flipped the lock back and forth first, still got the same message. Well, Long story short after about 6 hours split ...

Good scanner, but power unit failed

by   hero5 ,  Feb 26, 2007
Pros: great when it works
Cons: power supply failure appears widespread
Review: When I called tech support they told me power supply failure was a very typical problem with the unit. Customer service said they were out of power supplies for about a week and a half. What does that mean to me? When will I get mine? It's obvious ...

Worthless for scanning text

by   racassel ,  Oct 2, 2007
Pros: It was cheap
Cons: Customer Service is worthless. I spoke to Teri who attitude was Visioneer doesn't care
Review: Everything comes out too light. Even with 600 DPI and darkness in Paperport software set to max, Medium light documents do not scan at all. I had to take my documents, copy them on a copier before I could scan them in to PDF. I called Tech Support ...

Pros: Hardware specs & price is very good.
Cons: Paperport software won't scan with resolution higher than 2400.
Review: I purchased a Visioneer 9420 based on the very nice features displayed on the box. I was disappointed with the Paperport software which was included. This is a quote from the readme file. "Why am I unable to scan with a resolution higher than 2400 in ...
