Pros: Descriptive writing that lets you see, hear, taste without being tedious.
Cons: Too long between series installments.
The Bottom Line: Read the book, not the bottom line.
Review: I am reading this book for the fourth time for two very good reasons. First, because the author, Diana Gabaldon, writes such fascinating tales packed with information and action that I can reread one of her books and not be bored.

Pros: Captivating
Cons: Very small amount of offensive language
Review: After I had discovered the wonderful world of books as a child, my mother often accused me of living in them. In this book, I almost felt as if I HAD been transported right into the story.
The book begins in 1945, with Claire and Frank... |

Pros: Intelligently written, thoroughly engaging
Cons: None
Review: One of my oldest friends recommended Diana Gabaldon's series to me while we were on a mini-vacation a few months ago. I have to say that I was skeptical about the whole concept. I've never been much of a science fiction/fantasy reader, so I figured this...

Pros: fantastic romance and adventure story
Cons: might have to look up a few words
Review: The first time I saw this book, I was shelving books in the romance section of a Barnes and Noble store. The cover caught my eye, since the book looked out of place to me. I actually asked the man in charge of genre fiction if it was mis-shelved! He...

Pros: Characters you become passionate about, with an engrossing storyline
Cons: Have to wait too long between installments
The Bottom Line: I have read all six books in the series, along with the companion. My only advice is....read at least till chapter 7 before you make any decisions.
Review: In school I was considered a reader...and then I discovered boys. After high school, I never read. I got married had a couple of kids, and then one day my Dad loaned me ....Outlander!!! I was never interested in "Romance Novels," my ...

Pros: Vivid descriptions, great story, nothing like it!
Cons: May be a little long for some.
Review: My husband actually recommended this book to me. My husband, the Louis L'Amour reading, under the stars sleeping, VanDamme watching non romantic guy actually read this book, and liked it! And I, his romance novel reading, bubble bath taking, chic-flick...

Pros: Writing style, characters, plot
Cons: Time consuming (not a con to ME, but to others, perhaps)
Review: Outlander is easily my favorite book. I've read it at least 10 times, and each time I see something that I missed the previous times. It actually took me a while to get into it, but my friend who recommended it said "Give it 100 pages... if you're...

Pros: Superior writing. Well Researched. This book has an exciting, unique story line.
Cons: Cattle thieves are glamorized. It is difficult to find this book in hardback.
The Bottom Line: Buy it before they stop printing!
Both women and men will thoroughly enjoy this well-written novel.
Review: Outlander is the first book in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. Diana is an excellent writer! Diana puts a new spin on time-travel genre. If you are tired of reading novels with the same character types and with the same premises in different ...

Pros: Great writing, sense of humour, plot
Cons: Very emotional reading. Not something to finish at one go.
The Bottom Line: Buy it for keeps, but be aware that the ups are very up and the downs are very down.
Review: I resisted buying Gabaldon's books for the longest time. The blurb said it would be just another time travel story, and I couldn't see why there were so many in the series. Thick books, too. But she writes well. I found out how well when I bought ...
