Pros: Great book for women struggling in a man's world
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: Educational and interesting to read
Review: This book turned out to be nothing as I imagined. I was surprised to find so many parallels' with her life. It' was an extraordinary life, yet at the same time, it tells the story of every career woman in a man's world. It didn't matter whether you ...

Pros: An honest, unsparing account of a life well lived.
Cons: Wish she had been kinder to herself.
The Bottom Line: Both instructive and inspiring. Deserving of the Pulitzer. It's an extremely well written firsthand look at history and a life.
Review: In her amazingly candid and intensely moving autobiography the late Washington Post publisher Katharine Graham is unsparing in regard to her early ineptitude: "It's hard to describe how abysmally ignorant I was...I had very little idea of what I was...

Pros: Well-written candid autobiography and a history of a newspaper and a country.
Cons: Too many apologies about lack of knowledge and decisions. No man would have done that.
The Bottom Line: I recommend this book for everyone. It is a delight to read and an insight into a remarkable life.
Review: This is a top autobiography. I don't usually care for biographies and delayed reading it even though it got a Pulitzer Prize and the author died last July. Someone loaned me the book and I loved it. It is chronological and begins with her parents'...

Pros: well-written, easy to read, fascinating subject matter
Cons: Loooong
The Bottom Line: This is a long read, but engaging and well worth it. Graham was interesting and very human.
Review: Katharine Graham led a fascinating life. She was raised in staggering wealth and had many things handed to her, but she wasn't arrogant or content with a life of leisure. She had a great many experiences and was surrounded by interesting people, and she...

Pros: transforming, moving, endearing
Cons: long
Review: Katharine Graham did everything she was supposed to do as the daughter of a wealthy man:
She played. On the streets of Washington. At Mount Kisco, the family retreat. In San Francisco, as an intern. She married well. Phillip Graham... |

Pros: proves that "older" women can succeed
Cons: lengthy
Review: Katharine Graham's autobiography won a Pulitzer! If we all had lives like hers, the world would be a different place. This book is not just for women wanting to be successful, but for men who could use some hints on living "larger" than they...
