DVP3960 - A cheap beauty!

by   americanbear ,  Jul 24, 2007
Pros: Great image quality and ease of use, region-free code readily available
Cons: Missing a couple outputs, a touch noisy
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this affordable, high quality little DVD player. A grade all around. Better than many units at twice the price!
Review: Philips, an iffy history with me in DVD players I've always liked Philips products in many categories (especially their light bulbs, which I think are by far the best on the market, and back in the day that portable CD players were the thing to ...

A very nice DVD player

by   harpitect ,  Feb 14, 2008
Pros: Compact, great video, simple operation.
Cons: Limited video choices in HDMI setup, no eject button on remote.
The Bottom Line: This is an excellent DVD player for the money. I've had no complaints within the limits of its designed abilities.
Review: The Overview Because of its compact size, price, brand compatibility, and good ratings, I bought this DVD player to go with a recently-purchased 19” Philips LCD widescreen HDTV. The Philips DVP3960 is small single-disc upscaling progressive-scan ...

Up Your DVD's!

by   Jaynrand ,  Feb 25, 2008
Pros: Easy to use. Good picture, versatile outputs, low cost.
Cons: Remote very small, can't open or close tray with it.
The Bottom Line: Great way to take your first steps into better DVD viewing. Depending on your television, this might be all you need for several years.
Review: Remember videos? Remember VCR's? You probably have several of those tapes around, and you may even be watching some of them on your new HDTV! What drove video back into the closet? DVD, of course. Now manufacturers and producers are in another format ...

Love This DVD Player!

by   beaker28 ,  Sep 25, 2008
Pros: It's cheap!
Cons: It freezes up sometimes.
The Bottom Line: I'd buy it again because it will last as long as any other DVD player but costs a fraction of the price.
Review: I love, love, love this DVD player. It may sound like a silly reason, but the main reason that I love it so much is that it's so cheap. It seems like every DVD player we have bought over the last eight years has self destructed after about a year. I ...

Can't Beat It - For the low price

by   pf9000 ,  Aug 26, 2008
Pros: Great Picture, upconverts, HDMI Output, low cost, handles scratched DVD's much better than expected.
Cons: Lousy Remote, time delays turning on and ejecting. It doesn't come with the HDMI cable!
The Bottom Line: Can’t beat the low price. Not as good as a $200 player, but still quite good!
Review: Great Picture, low cost, handles scratched DVD's much better than expected, handles many formats including DIVX,MP3, VCD, WMA, JPEG and multi-region code available, also upconverts for more resolution. Handles compressed video formats better than ...

Buyer Beware - Garbage Alert!

by   cruz3 ,  Apr 4, 2008
Pros: Inexpensive, starts up relatively quickly, easy to navigate menus.
Cons: Durability, picture quality, and sound quality.
The Bottom Line: Skip it. This isn't a good player, even at the price. There are substantial increases in quality and performance for less than $70.
Review: I purchased this unit for my camper. Being picky about these things, I was disappointed with my LCD TV's upconverting from the 480i signal from my in-wall DVD player. Wal-Mart was close and offered this unit at $40. I decided to give it a try. When ...
