Don't Restrict Yourself From Buying This Album

by   marty1982 ,  Jun 4, 2006
Pros: Eleven now-classic rock songs, excellent riffs and vocals, a ton of atmosphere, etc.
Cons: That it took another album for QOTSA to finally hit it big with the mainstream.
The Bottom Line: Rated R is one of the best rock albums of the decade and is not to be missed by any fan of old-school or new-school rock.
Review: Josh Homme has to be one of the most active and unpredictable musicians in the rock world. After heading and splitting up one of the most influential underground rock bands in the country (Kyuss, for the uninitiated) and numerous side projects, ...

Rated R - Really Good

by   Modocikn ,  Dec 10, 2000
Pros: Vocals, guitars, everything really, except...
Cons: The trumpetty bit at the end of the album
Review: Progressive stoner rock. Not a genre that often gets mentioned, but when the band we're talking about is Queens of the Stone Age, then mention it we must.

Queens of the Stone Age are one of those unclassifiable bands, that transcend boundaries...

Believe the hype

by   Daniel_Rf ,  Dec 5, 2000
Pros: R
Cons: R
Review: Yes, my friends! All the clichees are true! Everything that you’ve read in ”NME”, every word of enthusiasm about them from Dave Grohl and Courtney Love is, indeed, justified. Queens Of The Stone Age are the greatest Rock band alive in the...

Full Throttle Rock+Roll

by   natroff ,  May 24, 2001
Pros: Excellent party music! Definitely original!
Cons: May take a couple of plays before the album consumes you. But worth it!
The Bottom Line: If your looking for some fresh music to sting you without the pain. Give Rated R a shot to your ears.
Review: Straight ahead in your face Rock+Roll with an attitude. From the opening track, you can see pretty much exactly where these guys are going with this album. Ripping guitar and bass, with robot-like precision drums. Lyrics are almost as off the wall as...

Bringing Rock Back Homme

by   TajMahalic ,  Nov 26, 2000
Pros: Great new possibilities for a tired genre
Cons: May seem too "retro" for some
The Bottom Line: The sort of album that has no bells and whistles, including those used on their previous release. It uses very little to create so much!
Review: In rock's world, full of rap-metal copycats and fevered pop egos, we rarely see anything that would determine the future of this dynamic genre. With their Sophomore release R, the Queens of the Stone Age may have provided us with a glimpse into...

Bring Back the ROCK!

by   yukyong ,  Nov 8, 2000
Pros: one of the best rock albums of the year
Cons: not enough songs
Review: I bought this album because Queens of the Stone Age ROCK!! They won me over with their first release and their great live show. With all the sickeningly sweet pop (bad music) ruling the radio waves, Queens of the Stone Age is a godsend! "Rated...

best band since pearl jam

by   evolutionrules ,  Mar 26, 2005
Pros: great "history". really shows where their new cds came from. songs= secret, fade, monsters, chemistry
Cons: a little raw. some songs don't seem to fit as well as others.
Review: i heard "no one knows" and "go with the flow" and thought...wow, now this is different. so i went back to there first two albums to get a feel for this band. i actually like the first two better than songs. rated r is great. lots to love about this ...

Whatever You Do, Tell Everyone About Rated R

by   PacManY2J , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Sep 21, 2008
Pros: Different yet cool rock
Cons: Takes some open mindedness
The Bottom Line: Putting the "stone" in Queens of the Stone Age
Review: I've never done drugs. I guess beer has always done the trick for me, and I never felt the need to try anything else. Yet for some reason, I love the subgenre known as "stoner rock." It's different, weird, and usually just plain cool. And one of my ...

Whatever You Do, Don't Tell Anyone!

by   headlessparrot , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Mar 4, 2003
Pros: Great Instrumentation, entertaining musically, interesting, textured
Cons: A little excessive and zany
The Bottom Line: A little excessive, but a great album nonetheless.
Review: The majority of the world’s music fans - at least those who are capable of intelligent thought - have become rather sick and tired of labels. And I’m not talking about record labels (although they’re an equally appropriate target for...

"I'm feeling so sick..."

by   mondocali ,  May 16, 2003
Pros: Awesome guitar, nicely structured rock
Cons: Hard to appreciate some songs if you've never dropped hardcore drugs
The Bottom Line: Paranoia, dude.
Review: Queens of the Stone Age are a band out of the Palm Springs area of California. After emerging from what was left over of Kyuss, they have perfected the art of cranking out modern metal while in a state of heavy "bake". Even though their music is...
