"Resurrection": breathing life into the corpse of mainstream rap (May Music Madness W/O)

by   paulyoungotti , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  May 12, 2003
Pros: Lyrically perfect. Jazzy, enjoyable production. No filler. A masterpiece.
Cons: *does not compute*
The Bottom Line: Resurrection: one of Hip Hop's best ever albums (Top 20, easily)... one of my top 10 favourites... 5 stars... I could be here all day!
Review: You may have been wondering where I have been lately, considering my review output has diminished considerably over the past few months. Well it’s been down to school commitments – coursework, revision etc – and I’ve had virtually...

Resurrection - "Common" knocks some "Sense" into Hip Hop (WIAB W/O)

by   bigd99999 , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Apr 6, 2003
Pros: Futuristic Lyricism, Introspectiveness, Great Production, Subject Matter Pure Classic
Cons: Cons? Hell No! Nothing "common" about this album at all...
The Bottom Line: This is Pure hip hop at its finest. Nearly every song is 5 Stars... BUY IT!
Review: Common Sense has always been regarded in the underground as one of the greatest rappers in history. Unfortunately, the majority has still not been able to understand the genius of this man, so they choose the easier found 2pac, or Notorious B.I.G. as the ...

Common Gives H.E.R Something She Won't Ever Forget

by   snik1 ,  Jun 13, 2007
Pros: Appropriate and dope No I.D. production, a hungry-as-hell Com, barely ANY skippable tracks.
Cons: Interludes, and the fact that it doesn't measure up to Like Water for Chocolate.
The Bottom Line: Yes yes y'all...the Common series is finally continued.
Review: On his 2005 masterwork (yeah, it’s only been two years – I could care less, it’s a classic album) Be, Common compared himself to Jesus Christ ”the way he sacrificed and resurrected twice”. Even though he’s no doubt ...

Resurrection: Common as Hip Hop’s Miles Davis?

by   madtheory , lead in Music at Epinions.com ,  Nov 20, 2001
Pros: The “lyrical” Common, good beats and production.
Cons: Ynot tries to rap, some beats get a little boring.
The Bottom Line: “I Used to Love H.E.R.” alone makes this a classic Hip Hop album. The rest of the great tracks on Resurrection are just icing on the cake.
Review: Common, in my opinion, is easily one of the best emcees alive. Throughout his career, his rhymes have shown a great deal of lyrical ability and complexity, using a wide array of poetic elements to explore a variety of topics. After his 2000,...

"Cause I'm on fire, If I was a Michelin I wouldn't tire"

by   aesopfable ,  Apr 13, 2004
Pros: Everything.
Cons: Nothing.
The Bottom Line: Bring your Miles Davis and fine tune those gritty, dark adapted hip hop ears of yours!
Review: Many who study and enjoy so called ‘real’ hip hop will understand that when you combine such a beautiful musical style such as jazz with the ruff and sophisticated rhymes of hip hop, you create a genre of music like no other! These days it is ...

World-Class Talent Disguised as 20-Something Nobody

by   cashclay ,  Jun 6, 2009
Pros: Perhaps the best lyrical performance of Common's career.
Cons: Nothing worth mentioning.
The Bottom Line:

It seems to get lost in the shuffle of critically acclaimed mid-'90s rap albums, but trust me: Resurrection is nothing short of a classic.

Review: Last Sunday was a quiet one in suburban Cleveland, the city tired and overwhelmed with disappointment after the Cavaliers’ Eastern Conference Finals elimination (and the post-game LeBron controversy that ensued shortly thereafter); it was like ...

Resurrection: Use your Common Sense and get it ASAP

by   rsz15 ,  Sep 18, 2003
Pros: Amazing Lyrics, No filler, Incredible Jazzy Production, Everything I Haven't mentioned
Cons: Don't know what you're talking about..
The Bottom Line: Get it. Now.
Review: Common Sense, now know as Common, released his incredible sophomore album in 1994. Resurrection definitely left Common's mark on the hip-hop scene, and he is still the only Chicago rapper to achieve some sort of fame. While the G-Funk and West Coas ...

Common Sense establishes his elite status

by   bekaymecca ,  Jan 18, 2004
Pros: Excellent lyrics, excellent production, excellent guest appearances from Y-Not
Cons: Not every track is perfect
The Bottom Line: An excellent follow-up to an impressive debut, "Resurrection" emphasizes microphone prowess over commercial marketability, polished from start to finish, utterly listenable.
Review: Contrary to popular belief, "Resurrection" is not Common's debut; while "Can I Borrow a Dollar" established him as a genuine lover of hip-hop and an every-day man, "Resurrection" is more of an emphasis on skills. Superior in every way to any other one ...

The Well of Life and Glistening Beauty Known as Resurrection

by   stealers_in ,  Feb 2, 2005
Pros: Elixir-like REFRESHING production. Unparralleled, highly original lyricism from Common Sense.
Cons: Loose, insincere lyric from NO ID, Perhaps Common is sometimes too relaxed?
The Bottom Line: Read The Review.....
Review: I wake on the East Side of Stony after my Resurrection thinking about the times before my death when I used to love h.e.r.. I have even forgotten what exactly that h.e.r. was and the reason my love deceased. Now I just sit here, in ...

top 5 hip-hop album- common at his best

by   kaajai ,  Apr 3, 2003
Pros: theres nothin out there that can compare to it
Cons: theres nothin out there that can compare to it
The Bottom Line: Buy it, and listen to the genius released from Common's breath
Review: Back in 1994,Common Sense released his 2nd album, titled Resurrection. Arguably the most most influential year in recent hip-hop history (and yes i think more important that '88.............think illmatic, 36 chambers, ready to die) Resurrection was...
