Tyger, Tyger Burning Bright |

Pros: The tension was palpable I kept listening for the panting cat.
Cons: The tension was palpable I kept listening for the panting cat.
The Bottom Line: Cornwell's Sharpes Tiger is an intriguing mix of fact and fiction. One would have to consult historical resources to separate the literal from the literary.
Review: Bernard Cornwells Sharpes Tiger sweeps us from our 21st century easy chair and carries us to the living hell that was the daily existence of a British soldier in 18th century India. [Though not the first novel featuring soldier Sharpe,...

Pros: Great Historical fiction; exciting story; fun to read; minimum of profanity and naughtiness
Cons: Occasional use of foreign language that's undefined; some graphic violence (but it's a war book!)
The Bottom Line: If you love military history -- read it. If you love adventure -- read it. If you like to read -- read it.
Review: It's no surprise to me that the Detroit Tigers have started out this year 0-7, and are seeking to match, and perhaps surpass last year's 0-11 start. I've lived through this down time. It stinks. Our Tigers have no bite. No claws. Nothing.

Pros: Great military fiction, no cartoons or cliches, suspenseful
Cons: None, really--does what it does well
Review: Bernard Cornwell has written over fifteen novels set primarily in the Napoleonic Wars (although the first couple are in India). The protagonist is Richard Sharpe, an up-from-the ranks English officer who spends half his time fighting the French and the...

Pros: Fills in some of the missing background to the "later" books, Pretty compelling read
Cons: Not as fresh as some of the others in the series .
The Bottom Line: The first in the Sharpe series, but it might not the best place to start
Review: As the 18th century draws to a close Private Richard Sharpe finds himself persecuted, bored and ready to run from the British Army while stationed in India. After a particularly brutal (and undeserved) punishment he's given the chance to escape from the ...
