A True Fixed-Focal Length Lens for a D-SLR Camera

by   paulphoto , top reviewer in Electronics at Epinions.com ,  Dec 29, 2006
Pros: Impressive wide aperture, sharp image and high contrast, true digital SLR lens, excellent image, fast-and-quiet
Cons: none
The Bottom Line: A great wide-angle lens for low-light photography. It delivers excellent images overall, even at wide open.
Review: Fixed focal-length lenses are a rare find in the digital arena. Most abundant are the zoom lenses; and, usually none that offer a larger aperture for low-light shooting as well as providing a nice out-of-focus background to allow the primary subject ...

I never thought I'd like a third party lens so much!

by   uniq , top reviewer in Electronics at Epinions.com ,  Jan 14, 2006
Pros: exceptional build quality, fantastic optical performance, best in class speed
Cons: some will feel it is expensive
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a FAST "normal" lens for your digital back then this one REALLY delivers
Review: I'm not a huge fan of third party lenses. I have largely been a brand loyalist (in this case..Nikon) and past experience has shown me that you get what you pay for and the better lenses typically cost more and the REALLY great lenses tend to cost a LOT!. ...

My new favorite lens...

by   avanbeek ,  Dec 12, 2005
Pros: Great build quality, perfect focus, fast and quiet.
Cons: There isn't a 20mm 1.4 at the same price level.
Review: I wasn't even looking for a new lens when I stumbled on a review of this one while enjoying my Canon 50 1.4. This lens makes up for everything that a 50 1.4 and 85 1.8 can't offer when wanting to do portraits in tight spaces and to have less DOF for ...

Sigma 30 mm 1.4 EX is first (and only) lens in its class

by   signalsports ,  Oct 14, 2005
Pros: Fast aperture, fast focusing, solid build, very sharp, inexpensive, includes lens shade.
Cons: A bit heavy and large, but this is really not an issue.
Review: A fast "normal" perspective lens is an essential component of a well rounded camera bag, and until now there hasn't been one available for DSLR's that have APS sized sensors. Sigma has changed that with this new lens that has a number of significant ...

A low light triumph!

by   sailingshot ,  Dec 14, 2006
Pros: Great quality optically and in build.
Cons: Expected softness at the edges wide open.
The Bottom Line: If you need a low light lens this is one of the best choices around 30mm available.
Review: This review is based on the Nikon mount and tested on a Nikon D80. This lens costs under 400.00 US in most places. Do NOT buy it from anyone but a well respected seller since sample variations might call for an exchange! Overview: The Sigma 30mm ...

Fantastic Digital Normal lens for the price

by   carpeicthus ,  Aug 14, 2005
Pros: FAST. Sharp. Very good bokeh (quality of out-of-focus parts)
Cons: heavier than you'd expect for a digital-only prime.
Review: The mission of this lens is to bring digital cameras, which tend to crop images by a factor of about 1.5, back to the tried-and-true "normal" focal length around 50mm. So many incredible images were taken by the 50mm/f1.4 lenses on film, and Sigma has ...

Poor image quality

by   garrepa2 ,  Mar 19, 2007
Pros: fast
Cons: very poor image quality - soft
Review: I was really disappointed with this lens. Took a few photos and things didn't look very sharp, so I did some testing, and I was surprised my the VERY soft images. Even my zoom lens were very much sharper. I returned the lens and got a medium ...
