Author's Review
SimAnt is a relatively old game. Mediocre Graphics, Confusing Game Interface, Grinding Music. Yet, it is still a relatively good game today. In SimAnt you play the part of a Single Black Ant, and it's your job to lead your fellow ants. You can either take your born part of Worker, in which you merely collect food for your Queen and her Brood. Or, perhaps you will transform your body into a Soldier and recruit your fellow ants to attack the Red ants. Maybe you will mass your and Brotheren and swarm and Ant Lion, kill a Caterpiller, or even destroy the deadly Spider. The choice is yours.
There are different game styles. One of which is a Quick Game, in which it's Black Ants versus Red Ants. Not much to do there. Then, you have the more fun Full Game. In this game you start out as a Mating Ant, and it's your job to dig a hole and start the hill. Then, you start your Brood, and are born into a Worker Ant, as the Queen Ant, your former self, lays eggs. It's your sole job now to defend the hill and get food. Soon, more Ants will appear and they'll help. More and More ants will be born, some Worker, some Soldier. You may choose to transform your body into one of a Soldier Ant, and attack enemy workers. Soon, you must start to expand into the other plots of Lawn and Home in the game. You must allot some of the new Ants to being Mating Ants, and then set them to go to another territory and start their own hills. You can also go to those areas, and help out. But, soon the game gets tiring. It may run by itself and you can win the game without even doing anything after you've got a good start. You can do some fun things, like dig around your hill, and create a massive network of tunnels. But there are some annyoing parts of the game. The humans' idiot son can Mow the lawn and kill nearly all of your ants. It gets annoying. Though there some interesting things to do, like transporting into the House and seeing the ant infestation there. Or, turning the captions on and reading the hilarious captions, but these get old fast. So, what you do is start messing around with Experimental Mode.
In Experimental Mode, you can place Ants and Rocks and Walls, and Food as you please. You can mess around with Pheramone Trails and Insectacide. You can make an Ant maze, or hold Ant races. It can be really fun. But, you'll start to get bored soon. It'll only be fun for so long. In conclusion, it's my idea that if you're an ant fanatic, buy SimAnt. If you're not, then you may be interested in some other fine Sim- labels.
